  • 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐍𝐃𝐂 𝟑.𝟎 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 Phnom Penh, April 1, 2025 — As countries around the world update their national plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change under the Paris Agreement, Cambodia has taken a significant step forward. For the first time, social protection has been recognised as a vital sector in Cambodia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, developed under the leadership of the General Secretariat of the National Social Protection Council, with support from the GIZ project Improving Social Protection and Health II (commissioned by BMZ) and other development partners like WFP, UNDP and UNICEF. The discussions centered on four proposed NDC measures for the social protection sector—designed to strengthen climate resilience, and support both adaptation and mitigation efforts. Additionally, participants from various government ministries, development partners and civil society established a better understanding of social protection's role in addressing climate change impacts, fostering collaboration across institutions for effective implementation. H.E. Chan Narith, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Secretary General of the National Social Protection Council, emphasized the urgent need for targeted actions, noting that vulnerable groups are disproportionately affected by climate change related events. H.E. Pak Sokharavuth, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, highlighted the pressing challenges Cambodia faces due to climate change, including heatwaves and floodings impacting various sectors and vulnerable populations. Kristina Knispel, GIZ Programme Manager of ISPH II, reaffirmed the project's commitment to support the Cambodian partners in exploring innovative ways of integrating social protection and climate action, such as integrating information on poor households with climate-risk data, exploring ways to support social climate-resilient housing and cash-for-work programs that benefit climate action. This integration positions Cambodia as a pioneer in linking social protection with climate change efforts in the NDC 3.0. By recognizing the role of social protection in climate action, Cambodia is taking an important step towards ensuring that vulnerable populations are supported in the face of climate challenges.

💡On March 26th–27th, 2025, under the project “Improving Value Addition in the Conventional and Organic Mango Value Chain in Cambodia (MangoPPP),” implemented by GIZ Cambodia and Kirirom Food Production (K.F.P) Co., Ltd, in cooperation with Angkor Green Investment and Development (AGID) Co., Ltd and Grove Fruit Growers (GFG), a two-day hands-on training was conducted for key farmers on “Technical Management in On- and Off-Season Mango Production and GAP Awareness Raising” in Kampong Speu Province. Through technical presentations, participants gained valuable insights into key topics such as Technical Management in On- and Off-Season, Pest and Disease Management, Technical Management of Harvest Handling, Mechanization for Farm Management, and Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) Awareness Raising. Beyond the technical presentations, participants also gained practical experience by visiting a farm, where the trainer demonstrated methods for using machinery to save time and labor costs, as well as pruning techniques. This combination of theory and practice provided a deeper understanding of innovative farming methods. 🥭 #GIZ #MangoPPP #Agriculture #Traning #EmpoweringFarmers #SustainableAgriculture #FarmingfortheFuture #កសិកម្មប្រកបដោយនិរន្តរភាព Photo Credit: AGID

Faculty development (FD) is a critical enabler in the transition toward pre-service competency-based education (CBE) for health professionals in Cambodia. International exposure to CBE-oriented learning experiences builds capacity of educators to implement CBE curricula. Therefore, GIZ’s Improving Social Protection and Health II (ISPH-II) project is supporting five faculty and clinical preceptors from the Health Science Institute of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (HSI-RCAF), Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital (KSFH), and Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital (CCFKH) to participate in the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 (𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐂) for Health Professions 2025. This course, delivered by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) in Germany, takes place online from February to July 2025. Looking ahead, Cambodia requires a comprehensive and scalable FD strategy to build a workforce of educators proficient in competency-based instruction. Under the ISPH-II project, GIZ has initiated a variety of FD initiatives, including the training, workshops, and a monthly Faculty Forum. In the near future, basic pedagogy in CBE will be introduced for faculty and preceptors at the HSI-RCAF and the hospitals.

  • 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬🌏 The GIZ FABRIC Cambodia project successfully delivered two dynamic events to foster dialogue and build capacity on Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) in Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). On 25 March, the project organised a high-level roundtable where top management from over 11 CSOs, alongside academia and researchers, engaged in crucial dialogue on how CSOs can become reliable partners in driving responsible business practices in the Cambodian private sector, especially the garment, footwear and travel goods industry. The discussion focused on ✅ Understanding the evolving global regulatory landscape on HREDD ✅ Exploring challenges and solutions presented by the legislations ✅ Recognising HREDD as a business opportunity Complementing this, from 26–27 March, the GIZ FABRIC Cambodia project hosted a two-day capacity-building training that equipped more than 20 technical staff and middle management representatives from over 10 organisations with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively engage in HREDD-related activities, focusing on advocacy and meaningful dialogue with stakeholders. Together, these initiatives lay a solid foundation for CSOs to promote human rights, environmental protection, and sustainable practices in Cambodia. 🌱 🙏 A huge thank you to Professor Sanchita B. Saxena for her expertise and facilitating the workshops as well as to all participants for their active contributions!  🎉 #HREDD #ResponsibleBusiness #Sustainability
