This week at The World Bank Group - International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings, we’re tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time: jobs. As millions of young people enter the workforce, developing countries face a growing jobs crisis—fueled by mounting debt burdens and declining capital flows that are limiting private sector growth. At IFC - International Finance Corporation, we are focused on unlocking the full potential of the private sector to drive job creation at scale. Depuis le 1er avril, Ethiopis Tafara a remplacé le Franco-Portugais Sergio Pimenta en tant que vice-président Afrique. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eNgRMbpT Un poste stratégique, alors que le secteur privé africain est toujours confronté à des difficultés d’accès au capital. La filiale de la Banque mondiale joue un rôle majeur dans le soutien à ce secteur : au cours du dernier exercice fiscal, IFC a soutenu 130 projets dans 45 pays d’Afrique pour un montant record de 14,2 milliards de dollars. I was delighted to join @IFC colleagues in Nairobi where we engaged with banks and corporates to discuss opportunities for expanding access to supply chain finance, including for women-owned #SMEs. At the #Sourcing2Equal Kenya closing event, I witnessed firsthand the power of collaboration. Over the past three years, IFC has worked with corporates to reach over 1,000 women-owned SMEs through procurement readiness interventions, resulting in 345+ new contracts for these small businesses. During a stakeholder roundtable, IFC brought together financial institutions, corporate buyers, digital platform providers, and female business owners to discuss how we can better collaborate to enhance access to supply chain finance in Kenya. These engagements have been instrumental in understanding the unique challenges faced by the various players and how we can innovate more to meet market demand. We look forward to continuing to support the growth of SMEs by increasing the availability of supply chain finance and enabling buyers to onboard more female business owners into their supply chains. IFC estimates that the market for supply chain finance in Kenya is approximately 2.8 trillion shillings. However, supply chain finance reaches less than 10% of the estimated market, representing a significant opportunity for the country’s economy. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable business environment for all.
