Football for the Goals – SDG 15: Life on Land Talent Quest Sports is proud to be part of the Inter-County Football for the Goals Championship 2025! This year, we're not just playing for trophies – we're playing for the planet. Our focus is SDG 15: Life on Land, and through football, we're taking action to protect and restore our environment. Here's how: Tree Planting: Together with our players and community, we’ll be planting trees to combat deforestation and promote a greener, healthier future. Waste Awareness: We're educating the community on the proper disposal of sanitary towels and baby diapers, tackling pollution and protecting our soil and water sources. Youth-led Clean-ups: Our youth teams will lead community clean-up drives, using football as a platform for change and leadership. We believe sport has the power to unite and transform – and we’re using it to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world. Today, I feel like I played basketball on the net. Celebrating the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace with Global Youth Forum was nothing short of inspiring. We had an insightful session opened with Florence Awuor of Mukuru talent, unpacking how sports movements are driving change and action toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at grassroots level. (You need to check them out) We then had a breakout discussions, where we explored real challenges facing grassroots communities in kenya, including: Financial constraints 💸(Common challenge identified by all groups) Limited infrastructure 🏗 Capacity gaps 📉 Lack of consistent commitment 🤝and Social barriers ⛔ 🏀 later we explored Human-Centered Design with an amazing session by Kathleen M. Vaughan, MA, PCC, ACTC, EIA SP, ITCA (she/her), giving us a fresh lens on designing inclusive, community-driven solutions. This would really shed light on how we could tackle identified challenges, gaps or change initiatives. Looking at our common challenge - Financial constrains, the room lit up with solutions that ranged from, Localized fundraising strategies, encouraging Social entrepreneurship for sustainability, Capacity building for leaders & organizations and, to exploring Public-Private Partnerships. Seems like it starts with us and ends with us. 😀 With the set strategies, an interesting call came from Justine Mokua for all grassroots, public and private institutions to up hold transparency and accountability in implementation. This not only fosters trust but enhances effectiveness and efficiency of programs. The energy, ideas, and collaboration in the room were powerful reminders that sports are more than games, they are tools for change. We keep this momentum alive; In June, 21st & 22nd 2025, Imarisha Usawa is inviting us to the USAWA Festival in Bungoma for a basketball tournament playing for SDG 5. As we say, we, leave no one behind. Tuende mashinani tuimarishe vitendo vya maendeleo endelevu. 😊 We shall be playing for Gender Equality. Let our girls play, learn, and excel. Omondi Peter |Justine Mokua |Florence Awuor |Kathleen M. Vaughan, MA, PCC, ACTC, EIA SP, ITCA (she/her) |Cheboi Millicent |Cliff Olal | Rose Cevensia Let’s continue to champion inclusive, locally driven and sustainable sports initiatives that leave no one behind. Much appreciation to Global Youth Forum for organizing such an insightful webinar. #Basketballforthegoals #Sportsfordevelopment #UsawaFestival #PartnershipForGoals

There were lots of take aways, key learning areas and the long and short of it is that Teams are out to comb the 17 SDGS. Thank you Global Youth Forum for making arrangements for this session and giving #MukuruKicks an opportunity to present and speak on what we do at the grassroot level in relation to #SDG8. I look forward to more collaborations. Omondi Peter Elizabeth Waliuba #Sports4sdgs #Football4peace
