I made a TikTok about wanting to work with Tonee Ndungu, and less than a month later, I met him in person. Wild.
This was during the first day of the Global AI summit on Africa in Kigali, Rwanda.
When I walked up to him, I just wanted to say, “Your brain is amazing! I’ve followed your work since I first heard you on the Financially Incorrect podcast, and I just find you inspiring.”
But instead, I asked him something that had been sitting with me for a while:
"How do you get taken seriously in trendy, hot topics—especially when you’re driven by curiosity and the need to learn, rather than a clear-cut plan? As a young person, how do you move past the fear of being dismissed as someone who’s just ‘shopping around’ rather than someone with real intent?"
His response? Take up space. Talk about it. Express your interest. Show people what you want to do or are doing, and there will always be someone who needs you on their team.
So here’s my shot.
I am curious about Artificial Intelligence. I am curious about how AI shapes human rights and global power politics. So curious that I have done a few things:
✅ I took an advanced course in AI and Human Rights from Sorbonne Université.
✅ At GforGirls Initiative, we partnered with Nyansapo AI to explore the use of AI in assessing foundational literacy for Grade 4 learners and conducting learning camps to improve their capabilities based on the data.
✅ I am building on research in Feminist AI, looking at how AI systems can be designed with gender equity in mind.
Now, I’m looking for short-term and long-term research opportunities in:
🔹 AI & Education
🔹 AI & Human Rights
🔹 AI & Children’s Participation
🔹 Building Unbiased AI Systems
If you know of an opportunity or have one, feel free to share in the comments or DM me—I’m always open to new projects! 🚀
Let’s connect. Let’s build. Let’s stay curious.
