To smooth your reading experience, let me give a bit of background; I am planning to write tech posts here (irregularly), to share the AI/ML/tech exp between all of us. I came from Hong Kong, where I wrote more on political / cultural, or even dining / winery matters, because that was our major concern, and I would not receive any feedback on any of my tech posts anyway.... but here in North America things are different. I joined some IT Whatsapp groups and the suggestions to problems had been really inspiring. When the democracy foundation is strong, and when the basic ethics are there, we can focus on the state-of-the-art tech, which hopefully can change our lives for the better. So in the next or coming posts, I would formulate some objectives or problems, which I may have a suggested approach solution, but I would like some of you to share your thoughts. It's just like beer talk. I am expecting your words in my coming posts!!

TokyoDev has launched a new Japanese language blog! It is focused on aiding Japanese companies in building English-speaking engineering teams. This is our first step towards our goal of helping these companies internationalize their engineering departments, which will allow them to take advantage of a much larger pool of eager applicants who have specialized knowledge or experience that they have trouble hiring for domestically. So far, we have had a lot of success helping Japanese companies hire international software engineers. Those companies already had international engineering teams in place, though, so we’ve been augmenting what was already there. Now, we are thrilled to provide resources in Japanese, relevant to companies interested in developing new global teams. In addition to the blog articles, Sayana Takagi will help support companies looking to make this transition. She’s been assisting companies in hiring international engineers for five years, and so has firsthand insight into the challenges and benefits. I’ve been working with her for almost a year now, and am thankful to her for helping make this possible. If your company is interested in her services, please reach out to her. Helping Japanese companies become more international will directly aid our existing audience by growing the job pool for international software engineers, who are perhaps more fluent in languages like C, Python, or Ruby than they are in Japanese. Models with 2B and 4B parameters are currently being trained, to set new benchmarks for Vietnamese language understanding in multimodal tasks. "We should keep our Festival product combinations in stock!" "If it sells well, it shouldn't be a time-limited offer," said my ex-boss. The concept of "special sales" challenged my mindset when I worked as a marketer for a startup in Taiwan, promoting an online platform for food, drinks, and desserts. I believe "special editions" should be limited to a specific time frame or consist of products made for a particular purpose. If the speciality lasts too long, it loses its sense of scarcity, which drives the urgency to buy. Without the pressure of time-limited availability, the motivation to act diminishes. Do you buy Christmas cakes and desserts after Christmas? Do you drink hot mulled wine in the summer? I was clearly in opposition to his idea. From my ex-boss's perspective, the Sales and Account Management teams invested much effort into negotiating the product combinations, so we should keep them in stock and increase sales if they perform well. However, based on my experience in e-commerce, special editions need a maximum of two weeks, including a warm-up period, to sell effectively. After that, performance drops significantly. Merchants often stop producing seasonal products due to reduced demand. Essentially, the promotion ends just a few days after it starts. "All right then," I thought, "If you insist." I left the company before seeing the results of the product combination. However, the experience challenged my perspective and forced me to consider things from a different angle, sparking some interesting thoughts. What do you think about special or seasonal editions? (The picture is of Omamoria, which is only in stock at the Kyoto shrine in autumn, which is quite beautiful. When seeing it, it triggers a piece of my memory of working in Taiwan. 😂 )
