📍Guatemala JICA is leading Phase 2 of the Community Policing Project to improve public safety by strengthening local services. The project works closely with the National Civil Police (PNC) and local authorities by promoting community Policing activities especially on crime prevention and community engagement. 👮 Last year, 28 training sessions were held, with 707 municipal and traffic police officers from five municipalities taking part. As part of the Project for development of aquaculture for blue growth in Morocco, eight officials from the Department of Maritime Fisheries took part in a training programme in Japan for about three weeks 🌊 Here’s a comment from one participant 🗣️💬 “It was a brilliant experience, full of learning and exchanges. We studied effective resource management and practical examples of how aquaculture can support sustainable coastal development. This experience helped us realise how small-scaled aquaculture, integrated with local fishing communities, could bring new economic and social opportunities in Morocco. I’m looking forward to implementing what I’d learnt to help promote sustainable aquaculture back home.”

📍 Democratic Republic of the Congo Ten years after the renovation of Congo-Japan Avenue by Japan (formerly Poids-Lourds Avenue), JICA launched a campaign to promote sustainable road maintenance 📢 The campaign highlights how dumping waste into gutters blocks drainage, increases flood risks, and accelerates road deterioration, urging citizens to take action. Alongside awareness efforts, gutter cleaning activities were also carried out 🧼 Between 2009 and 2015, JICA provided 5 billion yen to modernise and expand this 12 km road. As a key transport and commercial artery, its upkeep remains crucial for economic growth. JICA continues to stress the importance of public awareness and involvement 🗣️

📍 Solomon Islands Six JICA volunteers and Mr Amagai Hiromichi, a board member of the All-Japan Solomon Association, hosted a Takoyaki party for U-15 academy players and staff at the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), where JICA volunteer Mr Yamashita Kanto serves as a football coach ⚽️ Takoyaki, a popular Japanese street food originally from Osaka, consists of small, crispy balls made with wheat flour, octopus, pickled ginger, and green onions. All participants enjoyed it, and the academy students concluded the event with a traditional dance as a token of appreciation 💃🕺 SIFF CEO Mr Paia thanked the Japanese team, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange among youth. On March 18, 2025, Bangladesh officially inaugurated the Jamuna Railway Bridge, the country’s longest 4.8-kilometer railway bridge funded by JICA. 🎉✨✨ From JICA, Mr. Ito Teruyuki, Director General, South Asia Department and Mr. Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, attended the inauguration ceremony. The inauguration of the Jamuna Railway Bridge is one of the flagship cooperation between Japan and Bangladesh, paving the way for enhanced trade, regional connectivity, and economic development.
