The Tauhara Geothermal Power Station, located in the North Island of New Zealand, has a single-unit capacity of 184 MW, making it one of the largest geothermal power stations in the world. In this project, Fuji Electric managed the entire process, which included manufacturing essential equipment such as steam turbines and generators, as well as handling design, procurement, and construction in collaboration with our partners. With the completion of this power station, Fuji Electric has now provided geothermal power solutions at four different sites in New Zealand, contributing to approximately 40% of the nation’s total geothermal energy development, which amounts to around 450 MW. Grid-forming (GFM) inverters are essential for maintaining grid stability as we shift to sustainable sources. Unlike traditional power plants, renewable energy sources like solar lack "inertia," but GFM inverters adjust frequency and voltage to provide needed stability. At Fuji Electric, we’ve been developing GFM inverter technology since the late 2010s. Our dedicated team is committed to making these innovations a reality for a greener future. Want to learn more? Exciting News from Fuji Electric! We are glad to announce an investment in our Kobe Factory aimed at expanding the production capacity for switchboards and power supply systems. As the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) continues to rise, we’re seeing a significant increase in the construction of Internet Data Centers (IDCs). This surge brings about an urgent need for reliable power receiving and transforming facilities, as well as power supply equipment to effectively support IDC servers and air conditioning systems. To meet this growing demand, our Kobe Factory will implement the following initiatives: 1. Expanding the production building dedicated to switchboards and power supply systems 2. Enhancing production facilities for skid systems These improvements in skid systems will reduce the time from pre-shipment testing to on-site installation by 40% and will decrease the number of workers needed for on-site tasks. This not only enhances our operational efficiency but also addresses critical labor shortages in the construction industry. We look forward to the positive impact these changes will bring to our business and the industry as a whole!
