First Step Forward for SATCO! We are pleased to have hosted the #Kickoff Meeting for the #SATCO project yesterday at the Qascom headquarters. SATCO (SATellite COgnitivo Riconfigurabile, or Cognitive Reconfigurable Satellite) involves several members of the Aerospace Innovation and Research (AIR) network, leaders in the space sector in Veneto, including Officina Stellare S.p.A, Stellar Project, T4i Technology for Propulsion and Innovation, Zoppas Industries Heating Element Technologies, Dwave, GESSHIN - Ca' Foscari University of Venice | Student Association and Università degli Studi di Padova. SATCO will develop the #flatsat of an innovative satellite, leveraging cognitive features to support autonomous on-board operations such as payload switching and/or reconfiguration. This will be the first step toward a possible #regional and #international #cognitive satellite system. We are eager to collaborate with these top players to drive national and regional interests in space. Stay tuned for SATCO updates at the Veneto Space Meetings, May 20-22. See you there!

Goodbye LuGRE, Mission Accomplished! Our Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE) completed its mission sunday night when the Blueghost 1 Lander ended operations at lunar nightfall. The receiver has performed exceptionally throughout the mission since January 15th, breaking world records for deep space navigation at 401,000 km and achieving the first-ever PVT (Position, Velocity, Time) fix on the lunar surface. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Qascom, Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Politecnico di Torino for their hard work and outstanding collaboration over the past three years. Together, we have pioneered satellite navigation on the Moon, laying the foundation for future lunar navigation systems. A special thank you to the LuGRE receiver — you operated like a true warrior, persevering until the last minutes of moon surface operations. With this mission, Qascom has made a lasting mark on the Moon — a milestone that will endure forever. We leave a message for future generations: Think High, Think Big. There are no limits to what determination and motivation together can achieve!! #LuGRE #SpaceNavigation #MoonMission #ASI #NASA #Qascom

LuGRE computing the first worldwide GNSS Positioning at Moon Surface, with its LuGRE payload! On March 3rd 2025, the Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE) successfully computed it's first GNSS Fix on the Moon! LuGRE is a collaborative mission between the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, developed in Italy by Qascom and with scientific support from the Politecnico di Torino. Just 24 hours after Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lander touched down, LuGRE began its lunar observations from Mare Crisium. Shortly after, it received its first GPS G25 signal, confirming the receiver had survived landing and was functioning properly. By 7:48 AM, LuGRE locked onto four satellites: two from GPS (G18, G25) and two from Galileo (E2, E3) marking the first-ever Position, Velocity, and Time (PVT) fixes on the lunar surface using both GPS and Galileo dual frequency services. Thank you LuGRE, the first satellite navigation (GNSS) receiver to achieve 4 worldwide records in the last 14 days. Below are the key milestones ranked by importance: • First GNSS positioning from the Moon surface. • First Italian active instrument operated from the Moon surface. • GNSS positioning around the lunar orbit. • GNSS positioning from almost 400.000 kilometers away from the Earth. This achievement makes LuGRE the first GNSS receiver tracking signals from almost 400.000 kilometers away. It is also the first Italian active instrument on the Moon, showcasing the simultaneous use of GPS and Galileo signals in the lunar environment. For the next 14 days, LuGRE will continue to collect critical data for future lunar and cis-lunar navigation systems. Oscar Pozzobon, President of Qascom, shared: “This is a historic moment in almost 50 years of satellite navigation. First, we broke the world record for deep space GNSS positioning, and today, we have demonstrated that satellite navigation can be used both in the cislunar transfer and on the Moon’s surface. This will open up an infinite number of opportunities for future deep space navigation and lunar applications, including usage in lunar satellites and space stations, rover and astronaut navigation, precise lunar time transfer, and lunar emergency warnings. Today, we also demonstrated that future hybrid GNSS and Moonlight positioning will be a concrete possibility. This historic milestone has been achieved thanks to the support of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), its cooperation with NASA, and the scientific excellence of the Polytechnic University of Turin. My sincere gratitude and appreciation go to this outstanding team.’ #LuGRE #SpaceNavigation #MoonMission #Innovation #ASI #NASA #Qascom Teodoro Valente
