Taipei 101 in Taiwan – now in its twentieth year – remains a landmark project in Permasteelisa Group’s portfolio of skyscrapers worldwide. Named after its 101 storeys, Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building until topped by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010. Its striking stacked structure, reminiscent of a traditional pagoda, was designed by architect C.Y.Lee & Partners Architects/Planners to embody the spirit of both old and new Taiwan. The striking façade was the creation of our Gartner brand, which designed, engineered, manufactured and assembled over 125,000 sqm of unitised system. The façade was pressure-equalised to withstand seismic and typhoon loadings, with high-tech, insulated glazing offering broad vision and saving energy. Our team also provided a range of systems for the seven-storey podium, including a glass skylight at a height of 42 metres, stainless steel and granite shopfronts, complex canopy designs, and point system glazing. Today, Taipei 101 is a major tourist attraction, offering spectacular views from its observation platforms, exclusive shopping, restaurants and offices. We’re delighted to share the news that our Permasteelisa Gartner Middle East team has been appointed to design, engineer, manufacture and install the exterior façade and internal glass partitions for the stunning new KAPSARC School of Public Policy (KSPP) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The unique, complex façade will incorporate materials ranging from insulated glass over double-curved aluminium panels to ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). The total glazed area will be just over 6,000 sqm, with almost 27,000 sqm of horizontal and vertical aluminium cladding. We are delighted to have been appointed to engineer, supply and install the exterior for the 50 Fenchurch Street development.
 Our Gartner brand will work in partnership with colleagues from our UK team on the innovative 36-storey by Eric Parry Architects designed building, which is being delivered by AXA Investment Managers, on behalf of clients, with YardNine as the development delivery partner. Designed to be Net Zero once operational, 50 Fenchurch Street will be one of London’s first fully-electric towers and one of the Capital’s lowest carbon tall buildings with new construction practices set to become a world renowned example of sustainability. Permasteelisa Group’s Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) technology, with integrated automated blinds to maximise daylight while controlling solar gain, will be installed on the main tower, while the lower floors and new Clothworkers’ Hall feature a double-height stick system, terracotta-clad columns and hand-set stone. We will collaborate through main contractor, Multiplex, to ensure the façade aligns with the highest standards of design, functionality and sustainability. Permasteelisa Group’s CEO, Liam Cummins, comments: “This contract provides further evidence of our ongoing commitment to executing key projects in London. Today we’re shining a light on a project recently completed by our talented team from Permasteelisa North America. We started operating in North America in the late 1990s and rapidly became one of the leading façade specialists in the region, responsible for some of the best-known, most-loved buildings in the USA and Canada. Our acquisition of Benson at the end of 2024 expanded our US footprint and strengthened our capacity to provide clients with exceptional custom façade solutions – just like this one at 1450 Owens, in San Francisco’s Mission Bay District. At seven-storeys high, with a panoramic skyline view of the city, the building is a state-of-the-art hub for biotech innovation, which boasts prime lab space and expansive atriums. One panel in, 1,999 to go! Yesterday saw the installation of the first façade panel at EDGE London Bridge – a new sustainable landmark on the city’s South Bank. Moments like these are the culmination of years of hard work and collaboration for our team. Our Scheldebouw brand has designed, engineered and manufactured 20,000 sqm of bespoke façade for the building, including 12 different unitised systems incorporating glazed terracotta, GRC and Accoya timber. In addition, we are providing rain screen systems, stick systems, louvres, soffits, balustrades and canopies. Installation is now in the safe hands of our expert colleagues from Permasteelisa UK and we can’t wait to see the 26-storey building take shape over the weeks and months to come! We are proud to be working with Multiplex for The Crown Estate to deliver New Zealand House – an adaptive reuse project that preserves 90% of the building’s existing structure. The tower and podium’s glazing is being replaced with Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) technology, designed and delivered by our brand Gartner alongside our colleagues from Permasteelisa in the UK. CCF is an evolution of double-skin façade technology, significantly enhancing thermal performance while improving daylight transmission and maximising transparency. Solar gain is actively managed through automatic blinds within the façade cavity, which dynamically adjust based on their position on the building.
