River linking is a large-scale water management initiative that involves connecting rivers through a network of canals, reservoirs, and dams. The goal is to transfer water from surplus river basins to deficit areas, helping balance the distribution of water resources across a region or the entire country. Several river-linking projects have been initiated in India to ensure water security in every corner of the country. One such project is the Narmada-Kshipra-Simhastha Link Project, which was launched to provide water to the Ujjain and Simhastha regions in the Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The project lifts Narmada River water from the Omkareshwar Reservoir, located 78 kilometres from Indore. Lifting is done in three stages, employing eight powerful machines at each stage. A total of 5 Cumecs of water is lifted over a distance of 47 kilometres. This water is then released into the Kshipra River at its origin in Ujjaini village, ensuring a continuous flow that nourishes the land and communities. More than 162 villages across three tehsils have benefited from this initiative, bringing hope and prosperity to thousands of people. In Andhra Pradesh, the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project connects the Godavari and Krishna rivers, ensuring a reliable water supply to the Krishna delta. This project houses one of the largest pump houses in Asia, equipped with 24 pumping units. It has earned a place in the Limca Book of Records for being the first and fastest such irrigation project executed in the country. As a landmark project in India's river interlinking efforts, it significantly supports agriculture and rural livelihoods. In addition, projects like the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi, Muchumarri Lift, and Purushothapatnam Lift Irrigation Projects have been instrumental in revolutionising the water scenario in their respective regions. MEIL takes immense pride in building these crucial water infrastructure projects. We are part of many first-of-its-kind projects and are conquering various terrains, from the Challenging Himalayas to bustling cities like Mumbai. We are executing Asia's longest bidirectional tunnel project, the Zojila Tunnel Project, in Jammu and Kashmir. This project's more than 13-kilometer-long main tunnel and other infrastructure components, such as cut-and-cover tunnels, bridges, snow galleries, and shafts, help provide all-weather connectivity to Kashmir and Ladakh. We are executing India's longest urban road tunnel under the Thane Borivali Twin Tunnel Road Project in Mumbai, the bustling city. In Telangana, we constructed Asia's longest underground Irrigation tunnel, spanning 49 kilometres with a 5.6-metre diameter, to ease water flow in the J. Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Project. Furthermore, in Andhra Pradesh, at the mighty Polavaram project, we built the World's largest spillway, which measures 1,128 meters long and has 48 radial gates. This spillway has a staggering flood discharge capacity of 50 lakh cusecs. Our story doesn't end here. We are proud to have executed India's first flood water-to-drinking water project, the Gangajal Aapruti Yojana in Bihar. In this project, excess flood water from the River Ganga is treated, stored, and supplied to the Rajgir, Gaya, Bodhgaya, and Nawada regions. We have also executed India's first river-linking project, the Narmada- Kishpra- Simhastha Link Project. This project is now providing water security to the Malwa region in Madhya Pradesh. Our first-of-its-kind ventures are not just limited to the water and transportation arenas; we have also marked our presence in the power sector. We built India's first 10-megawatt canal-top solar plant on the Narmada Branch Canal in Gujarat. This project has been generating clean energy for over a decade. Additionally, we executed India's first large-scale power infrastructure venture ever built by a private entity, WUPPTCL, in Uttar Pradesh. This project consists of Air-insulated and gas-insulated substations that provide electricity to rural regions in Uttar Pradesh. In addition, we are constructing numerous projects that help the people and improve the economy.
