Neigh-bourhood Watch! Two of our Mounted Unit were on duty in Loughrea, Co. Galway over the weekend and called into St. Brendan's Nursing Home for a nose. A gallop poll of the residents found they had an altogether mare-vellous time. #HereToHelp

We recognise the long lasting impact any burglary has not just on the victim but on communities, both rural and urban. Operation Thor aims to target and prevent burglaries across the country. The winter phase of Operation Thor runs each year from 1 October until 31 March the following year. Detective Chief Superintendent Seamus Boland gave an update on the operation today. In the ten years of operation Thor, there has been a 75% drop in recorded residential burglaries during the winter phase. Residential burglaries in the 2024/2025 winter phase represents an average of approximately 17 burglaries per day across the 26 counties, or less than one residential burglary per day per county. During the 24/ 25 winter phase under Operation Thor, there were over 900 arrests for incidents linked to the operation and over 2,000 charges including burglary, aggravated burglary, or possession of an article. #KeepingPeopleSafe

⚠️ An Garda Síochána does not allege criminal activity by phone and will never demand bank details or payment of a fine over the phone. We are aware of a current scam/fraud where a person receives a phone call claiming to be from An Garda Síochána. The caller may say they are investigating the call recipient for a crime and/or that there's a warrant out for their arrest. The caller then demands that the recipient provide their bank account details to pay a fine. These calls come from a variety of international number and Irish mobile numbers - but these calls are entirely fraudulent. We do not and will not make contact with a person under investigation in this way. Our advice to help avoid becoming a victim of fraud: ❌️ Don't respond to any unsolicited call or email seeking personal, financial or security advice ❓️ If you believe the call or email is from a genuine source, verify this independent of the person who has made contact ❓️ Independently verify any requests for information and never use the contact details supplied to you in the fraudulent call or email ❌️ Never click on a link or attachment in an unsolicited email It is very easy to have inadvertently or otherwise engaged with this scam or another similar scam, and subsequently found yourself a victim of fraud - do not hesitate to drop into or call us in your local Garda Station so that we can help. We will conduct a 24-hour speed enforcement operation nationwide from midnight tonight in partnership with the Road Safety Authority. This will be the second national #SlowDownDay of 2025, and we are asking the public to please support the initiative by slowing down. Even if road and weather conditions are good, any increase in speed increases a driver’s likelihood of being involved in a serious or fatal road traffic collision. With longer periods of daylight we can expect an increase in vulnerable road users, pedestrians and cyclists. We are asking people to have a conversation with those around you about speed, driving safely and helping to make sure everyone using Irish roads arrives home safely. #KeepingPeopleSafe

Yesterday, at the Mansion House in Dublin, we marked 100 years since the amalgamation of Póilíní Átha Cliath, previously called the Dublin Metropolitan Police, and An Garda Síochána. It gave us an opportunity to reflect on this amalgamation and to acknowledge and recognise the contribution this made to the growth and development of policing in Ireland.
