Operational Setback and Recovery: Managing a Cauldren Failure Mid-Shift During a recent production shift, we encountered a significant structural failure in our main melting pot — a crack developed in the cauldron wall, leading to an uncontrolled discharge of over 3 tonnes of lead-antimony molten material. This type of incident can escalate quickly, but thanks to monitoring and immediate response from the team, we were able to: Isolate the failure zone Initiate manual ladling protocols Begin preparations for a full melting pot replacement without halting all downstream processes Unfortunately, we were unable to contain the spread of material and this caused irrepairable damage our gas burner. While the root cause analysis is ongoing, preliminary signs point to thermal fatigue and prolonged exposure beyond recommended cycling thresholds. Our usage of bigger blocks also contributed to the cauldron failure. In the meantime, our workers have been able manually ladling out residual material to securing the work area for a safe swap-in of the replacement cauldren. These are the moments that validate the importance of: Preventive maintenance tracking Operator readiness Redundant safety and material handling systems Proud of the team’s professionalism under pressure — and reminded that real resilience is engineered both into your systems and your people. #Metallurgy #FoundryEngineering
Rólunk
The history of Metalloglobus traces back almost over a century – it was founded in 1923 by Manfred Weiss in order to ensure the metal supply to his own company. After 1945 the company was nationalized and, at the time, was one of the country’s biggest commercial companies. The foundry, which is the predecessor to Fémöntő Ltd, was founded in 1968 and has been producing soft solder since the 1970’s. After the regime change, the company was privatized and organized into business units. Metalloglobus Fémöntő Ltd was the sole manufacturing unit which produced and sold lead-tin alloys. In 2004 Mihály Vlaszák, the current owner, took over and continued the tradition of the company. Our company has a strong market postion, extensive business network and great experience at selling and manufacturing tin and lead products. In Hungary we have a unique production capacity (casting machine, melting furnaces, drawbenches and pressing tools) and knowledge about soldering tin, lead wires and tin-lead alloy production. Additionally, due to our manufacturing capabilities, we are able to manufacture more complex lead alloys. Our quality policies ensure we are in line with our corporate process, which entails the high quality production, customer centered thinking and flexibility in services. Our goal is to not only sell and provide services at a high level to our customer, but also foster their development. In collaboration with our stakeholders we continously seek new ventures, where we could expand our business, product portfolio and improve our services. Metalloglobus applies to various innovation projects with a high success rate and seeks partnerships which could enhance sustainability and efficiency.

ESG Podcast featuring our managing director, Robert Kelly, will be coming to Linkedin and YouTube in the next few weeks,
Started the morning speaking with the Prysprove team on their ESG-focused podcast. We discussed the Metalloglobus Fémöntő Ltd ESG 2024 report that they helped us prepare, the challenges we faced during the process, how we build ESG into our strategy and what are the key motivating factors for our company in doing our ESG report 2 years in advance of the legal requirements. We covered some other ESG related topics and it was a very enjoyable discussion which will be available here and on YouTube in a few weeks. Thanks to the team for the invitation and for helping me through my first podcast (Domonkos Michl, Ádám Kiss, Konrád Czeglédi). #ESG

This week, the team had the honour of hosting a delegation from the chamber of commerce and industry Ulm (IHK Ulm) as part of their tour around Europe. Around 20 members from various industries made time to visit our company. As this was the last stop in Hungary, the goal was to have an interactive and informative overview of our company followed by a walking tour around the factory to see how a metal foundry in the center of Budapest works. The discussions centered around challenges facing our industry, specific obstacles due to being in Hungary, competition from abroad and also how to motivate and retain employees. Once we visited the factory, the delegation could view with their own eyes our casting process, and how we make different alloys, our lead production process and our solder based production. As we have machines ranging from 1952 to 2019, we are able to give in-person demonstrations of technological advancements over the years but also how, with older technology, we can still produce high quality products and make our deliveries on time. We are proud of our company and we are always happy to show our processes to companies from different industries. We hope the delegation enjoyed the company visit as much as we did. #céglátogatás

Metalloglobus ESG Report 2024! As ESG regulations tighten across Europe, transparency and sustainability are no longer optional, they are essential for long-term operations. Under the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), thousands of companies across the EU are now required to disclose detailed information about their environmental, social, and governance performance. In Hungary, this means aligning with EU Taxonomy, conducting double materiality assessments, and integrating ESG strategy into business operations more deeply than ever before. The law is phased in with small and medium-sized public-interest entities required to be report by 2026. Our 2024 ESG Report reflects our full alignment with the latest EU standards — and more importantly, our long-term commitment to a greener, more responsible future. 📌 Highlights from this year’s report: 🌱 20.2% of energy use now comes from renewable sources. 🔄 Increased use of recycled materials in production 🤝 Strengthened supplier sustainability protocols 💼 Ongoing support of local initiatives, including cultural preservation We are fully aligning our operations with EU ESG standards while making measurable progress toward environmental sustainability, employee wellbeing, and ethical governance — proving that even a century-old industrial company can be a driver of green innovation and responsible business in Hungary. The report would not have been possible without the experts at Prysprove, their support and guidance throughout the process was invaluable. If you wish to know more about ESG requirements, please get in touch with them, link to their website below. https://www.prysprove.hu/ #ESG #Sustainability #CSRD #CircularEconomy

In three weeks time, the Metalloglobus team will be back at the InnoElectro Conference and Exhibition in the BOK Csarnok from the 8th to the 10th of April. Last year's exhibition was filled with impressive displays from innovative companies, excellent presentations in both Hungarian and English and the venue matched the quality of the exhibition. This year promises to be of high standard with many new informative presentations and displays to be seen. For our company, we are eager to get back to meeting with colleagues, partners, competitors and the varied visitors (from college attendees to recently retired) as it is always a great occasion to bring more awareness to our company. This year, we will hopefully be able to present a new service we can provide to our current and/or potential customers and we look forward to discussing this with anyone who comes to our stand. As with last year, there will be coffee, chocolate and a surprise on offer for all those who spend their valued time at our stand. See you in a few weeks.

The curious case of Bismuth Bismuth As of March 2025, the global bismuth market is experiencing notable shifts influenced by geopolitical developments, supply dynamics, and its emerging role as a lead-free alternative in various applications. Current Market Dynamics The bismuth market has been on an upward trajectory, with its valuation reaching approximately USD 464.17 million in 2023 and projections indicating growth to USD 759.17 million by 2032. This growth is primarily driven by increasing demand from sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, metallurgy, and electronics. However, recent geopolitical events have introduced complexities to the market. In February 2025, China announced export controls on five critical metals, including bismuth, citing national security interests. China, accounting for over 80% of global bismuth production, imposed these restrictions in response to new U.S. tariffs, leading to concerns about supply shortages and potential price increases in international markets. Availability and Supply Considerations Bismuth is predominantly produced as a byproduct of lead and tungsten mining, with China being the largest producer. The recent export restrictions are expected to tighten global supply, prompting other regions to explore alternative sources and increase recycling efforts. Current pricing of bismuth is US$ 42/lb. Bismuth uses in soldering With a melting point of 271.5°C (520.7°F), bismuth is ideal for low-temperature solders and fusible alloys used in electronics, plumbing, and fire suppression systems The electronics industry has been progressively shifting towards lead-free solders due to environmental and health concerns. Bismuth-based solders have emerged as a viable alternative, offering benefits such as lower melting points and reduced toxicity The incorporation of bismuth in tin-silver solder formulations enhances mechanical properties and reliability, making it suitable for various electronic applications. Market Outlook The bismuth market is poised for continued growth, albeit with potential volatility due to geopolitical factors and supply constraints. The metal's unique properties, coupled with its environmental advantages, position it favorably in the shift towards sustainable industrial practices. Bismuth's role in solders and other applications underscores its importance in modern manufacturing. Industry should remain aware of geopolitical developments and supply chain dynamics to navigate the evolving landscape effectively.

The Metalloglobus team had two great days at the IWA OutdoorClassics trade fair in Nuremberg. The fair was full of companies displaying innovative products and services, new approaches to industry problems and all with a very diverse showing from international companies. Many meetings were had with both new and existing partners, where common solutions were offered to work towards each others continued success. The discussions contained both positive and pessimistic topics but the overarching theme was always of working towards a common goal. We look forward to further cooperation and collaboration with our partners and wish them all a good trade fair.
