We considered starting this post with a lighthearted one-liner, but the topic at hand is hardly amusing to anyone in Europe – and, in our view, it certainly shouldn’t be. We are, of course, referring to the recently published White Paper on the Future of European Defense – a document that many consider one of the most substantial in recent years. After years of delays, it has finally been released, offering not just general strategic directions often found in European publications, but also concrete recommendations on how to strengthen collective security in a time of growing threats from all directions. While this has taken time, it is a step in the right direction. On October 1st, 2024, Croatia took a significant step forward by introducing its first-ever law regulating lobbying. This landmark legislation marks a new era of transparency and accountability in the country’s public decision-making processes.
