How do we combat water stress by desalinating seawater? 💧 Powered by local renewable energies such as wind and solar, #seawater #desalination is becoming a sustainable low-carbon solution. It is an alternative to provide access to fresh water in arid regions. The water is separated from the salt and impurities using two main technologies: 🔹 Thermal desalination, which transforms the water into salt-free steam, 🔹 and reverse osmosis, which retains the salt from water by membrane filtration. Digital innovation and AI are revolutionizing performance in desalination plants. They make predictive maintenance of installations possible, and improve the energy efficiency of seawater desalination systems. Desalination stands as a vital solution in the fight against #water scarcity, particularly for coastal regions! Is #desalination in the Middle East a sustainable answer to water scarcity? The answer is yes! At a time when the Middle East is having to adapt to the consequences of #ClimateChange, Veolia offers comprehensive support for the #water cycle to meet the growing demand for drinking water in an arid region. ➡ 15 million people supplied with desalinated water by Veolia in the Middle East ➡ #Desalination represents 21% of Veolia's revenues in the Middle East ➡ 5 million m3 of desalination capacity built in the Middle East, representing 15% of the region’s installed capacity Veolia has made Middle East a strategic zone and a geographic growth booster for its #GreenUp strategic program. Since entering the Middle East market in 1970, the Group has shown remarkable growth, increasing revenue from €0.6 billion in 2019 to €1.2 billion in 2024, targeting a 50% rise in revenue in the region by 2030. A key role in driving a #EcologicalTransformation that combines innovation with #energy efficiency and environmental protection! 🔗 Learn more on our new Planet magazine focusing on sustainable desalination: https://lnkd.in/eyg7USt8

50% of the world's population is already facing #water scarcity, while global water demand is projected to increase by more than 50% by 2050. 💧 Faced with these challenges, #desalination is an essential solution in the face of water scarcity: 🔹 more reliable, when alternatives already deployed are insufficient 🔹 more relevant, as 80% of the world's population lives near the sea 🔹 more affordable thanks to innovation - the price of desalination has gone from $5/m3 in 1970 to less than $0.5/m3 in 2024 🔹 more sustainable, with energy consumption cut by a factor of 5 and minimal impact on biodiversity As a global leader in water services and technologies, Veolia is a major player in sustainable seawater desalination with 50+ years of experience and a new generation of plants at the cutting edge of energy efficiency. In the Middle East, Veolia operates efficient and sustainable desalination plants such as: 👉 Mirfa 2, one of the world's largest energy-efficient desalination plants in Abu Dhabi. This reverse osmosis desalination plant will supply drinking water to around 210,000 households.  👉 Hassyan, the second largest reverse osmosis (RO) seawater desalination plant in the world built south of #Dubai will supply drinking water to 2 million inhabitants. This confirms our leading position in water technologies and our commitment to leveraging our expertise and our capacity for innovation to deliver reliable, affordable and sustainable water access solutions. 🔗 Discover how Veolia leads the way toward sustainable desalination: https://lnkd.in/ec6uyP3B #EcologicalTransformation

#Wastewater management represents both a crucial challenge and an opportunity for cities: as a local partner, Veolia can respond effectively to people's needs by combining our #innovation and expertise with the strategic vision of local authorities. In Boulogne-sur-mer in northern #France, the wastewater treatment plant named 'Séliane' is a state-of-the-art facility capable of treating the wastewater of the equivalent of 200,000 inhabitants. This plant is a perfect example of Veolia's commitment to the circular economy. Its sludge incinerator recycles wastewater by converting it into green #energy (biogas): this biological process is called anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge. The biogas is used to supply the local district heating grid, providing 500 homes. Long viewed as simply a nuisance, sewage sludge is actually a resource and energy source.⚡ This virtuous approach demonstrates Veolia's ability to combine technical performance with environmental responsibility! 🔗 Learn more about wastewater management: https://lnkd.in/ez8tkpU3
