⏱ Addressing climate change: Mitigation vs. Adaptation In the context of climate change, a debate often arises about whether to focus on mitigation or adaptation. Mitigation involves actions aimed at reducing or preventing the emission of greenhouse gases, to slow the pace of climate change. This includes measures such as reducing our energy consumption and investing in renewable energy. Adaptation, on the other hand, focuses on adjusting our systems and practices to cope with the current and anticipated impacts of climate change. This involves developing flood defenses, modifying agricultural practices, and creating emergency response plans. 🔎 While some argue that adaptation may distract from the urgent need to mitigate climate change, the reality is that both approaches are necessary. Mitigation efforts are crucial for addressing the root causes of climate change, but adaptation is equally vital to prepare for and manage the inevitable physical effects of climate change. The necessity for adaptation is underscored by the fact that even if global emissions were to cease immediately, some degree of climate change and its associated impacts would still occur due to past emissions. 💡 In a nutshell, it is crucial to address the root causes by reducing greenhouse gas emissions to avert the most severe effects of climate change, while implementing adaptation strategies to manage the inevitable consequences. Therefore, it is critical for businesses to incorporate both mitigation and adaptation strategies into their sustainability planning to ensure long-term resilience. This can be summarized in one sentence: "Avoid the unmanageable (climate mitigation) and manage the unavoidable (climate adaptation)." —— Figure: AR6 Integrated assessment framework on future climate, impacts and mitigation. {WGI TS1.4, Figure 4.11, WGII Figure 1.5, WGII Figure 14.8} https://t.ly/N4qsM

🌱 We are thrilled to share two recent achievements for Resilient. Firstly, we are honored to have won first prize at the Fondation INSA Lyon's Entrepreneurship Competition, awarding us 5000 euros. This recognition and support will significantly aid our mission of helping companies adapt to the effects of climate change. Our platform empowers businesses to visualize and manage their current and future vulnerabilities to climate hazards—such as floods, heatwaves, and cyclones—enabling them to implement targeted adaptation measures that protect their employees and operations. Additionally, we were selected as finalists at l'École Polytechnique competition, the Prix Jean-Louis Gerondeau-Safran 2024. It was an enriching experience to present our mission alongside other innovative startups within the X-Novation Center .
