Open Christchurch is taking place on 2-4 May this year, and we're pleased to be involved in a couple of events focused on acoustic design. These sessions offer insights into the role of acoustics in the built environment. 🔹Acoustic Design at The Piano Jon Faren will discuss the acoustic design of The Piano: Centre for Music and the Arts, including how the client brief influenced the design of The Philip Carter Family Concert Hall and exploring different acoustic considerations for music and speech performance. 🔹Acoustic Design in the City A guided walk through Christchurch, exploring significant buildings including The Piano, The Court Theatre, Ron Ball Studio and Christchurch Town Hall. Jon Farren will provide an overview of the acoustic features that make each building unique and the history of the design progression. This week, Marshall Day Acoustics was excited to welcome in Melbourne all our graduates from across Australia for a a two-day training session. What better way to kick start this session than lining up a couple of teams for the Melbourne Teams Corporate Triathlon. The triathletes (left to right and back to front) were Dean Ussher, Lachlan Deen, myself, Adair Morrison, Freya Wheatley, Travis Hancock, Cameron Hough and Jet Kye Chong with the support from Melissa Renard and Sally Campbell. Congratulations to all for a fantastic event!

This summer we've had the pleasure of hosting Rose, an intern from the TupuToa Internship Programme at our Hamilton office. TupuToa is a fantastic organisation that creates employment pathways for Māori and Pacific students, helping them gain valuable work experience and skills that will support their future careers. Over the course of the internship, Rose gained insights into the field of acoustics, worked on a range of projects, and contributed to a research paper that explores environmental noise from a te ao Māori perspective. We've loved having her around and look forward to seeing her continue to thrive in her studies and career.    "Over the summer I have had the incredible opportunity to intern at Marshall Day Acoustics in the Hamilton office, thanks to the TupuToa Internship Programme. This experience allowed me to connect with a company that aligns with my studies in the Te Ara Taiao stream of Environmental Planning at the University of Waikato.   During my internship, I was exposed to a diverse range of projects, learning the fundamentals of Acoustic Consulting and how to use technical equipment. The ECU City campus reached a major milestone last week, with the campus officially reaching its full structural height. The ‘topping out’ milestone marks major progress on one of Perth’s most significant developments, with internal fit-out and finishing works continuing throughout 2025 ahead of the campus opening in 2026. ECU City will feature state-of-the-art learning, engagement and performance spaces giving students and staff access to learn, teach, create and perform in world-class spaces. The new home for WAAPA includes a Playhouse Theatre, Recital Hall, Flex Theatre, Jazz and Contemporary Venue, Aboriginal Performance venue, and Dance Theatre, along with a range of teaching spaces and rehearsal venues, workshop areas and dressing rooms. Haworth Tompkins is working with Australian architects Lyons, Perth-based Silver Thomas Hanley, theatre consultants Charcoalblue, acoustics designers Marshall Day Acoustics, Head Contractor Multiplex and engineers Stantec.
