Thank you Green Marine Europe for your very interesting collaborative work with Bernard Plisson !
🌿 In 2024, Green Marine Europe (GME) launched the process of adapting its environmental certification framework to ports. This work continues into 2025, with a kick-off meeting held on March 4, and the goal of seeing the first certified ports by 2026. 🤝 True to its collaborative approach, GME is carrying out this project with key maritime stakeholders, including Port Atlantique La Rochelle. ⚓ France’s sixth largest port by tonnage, Port Atlantique La Rochelle handled over 8.4 million tonnes of cargo in 2024. It is ISO 14001 certified and has implemented a structured CSR strategy. 🚆 With nearly 1.1 million tonnes of cargo transported by rail in 2024—representing a 13% modal share—the port is leading toward more sustainable logistics. Its strategic location on the Atlantic coast, 283 hectares of land (including 50+ hectares of reserve space), and facilities adapted to all types of cargo (petroleum products, cereals, construction materials, agricultural bulk…) make it a key player in the development of eco-friendly maritime and multimodal transport. 🌱 Its contribution to adapting GME’s indicators to the European port sector is seen as a natural extension of its CSR commitment. Underpinning this involvement are three core considerations: 1️⃣ GME’s structuring role in the maritime industry 2️⃣ The opportunity to leverage North American feedback 3️⃣ The sector-focused approach of the GME framework 🗣️ “This is an opportunity to bring our field experience to the table while discovering a framework under development, backed by international expertise through Green Marine International,” explains Bernard PLISSON, Director of Strategy and Ecological Transition. 💡 Read the full article here 👉https://urls.fr/sC9TE- ⚠️ Note: Port Atlantique La Rochelle is contributing its expertise to adapting the GME framework for the European port sector but is not currently engaged in a GME certification process.
