Sharing some great news for the aviation industry’s journey to net-zero carbon emissions: Neste has successfully started producing sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF) at its renewables refinery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, increasing its global SAF production capability to 1.5 million tons per annum, roughly 1.875 billion liters of SAF. “It is clear that we need to continue making progress in mitigating climate change and addressing aviation’s climate impact. Neste is fully committed to supporting its customers in the aviation industry to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and this milestone underlines that commitment,” said Heikki Malinen, President and CEO of Neste. The Rotterdam refinery has been modified to enable Neste to produce up to 500,000 tons of SAF per annum as part of the existing capacity. Neste also has SAF production capabilities at its refineries in Singapore, currently the world’s largest SAF production facility, and in Porvoo, Finland. SAF is widely acknowledged as a key lever to reduce aviation emissions but policy support and close cooperation across the whole aviation ecosystem are required to accelerate the energy transition and related emission reductions. In vier Folgen haben wir gemeinsam mit der VerkehrsRundschau das Thema HVO100 unter die Lupe genommen. In der aktuellen Folge spricht Lars Menger, technischer Projektleiter für erneuerbare Energieträger, über den Einsatz von Neste MY Renewable Diesel bei der BMW Group. Seit kurzem werden alle in Deutschland produzierten BMW-Modelle mit Dieselmotor vor der Auslieferung an die Händler mit HVO100 betankt. Zudem hat BMW vor über zwei Jahren ein Pilotprojekt gestartet, bei dem LKW im Werksverkehr mit Neste MY Renewable Diesel unterwegs sind. Beide Beispiele zeigen: HVO100 leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag zur CO2-Senkung, denn der erneuerbare Kraftstoff spart bis zu 90 % THG-Emissionen im Vergleich zu fossilem Diesel. Entsprechend positiv fällt das Fazit von BMW aus: HVO100 ist ein wichtiger Baustein, um Emissionen wirksam zu senken – und die Lösung ist sofort einsetzbar, ganz ohne technische Umrüstung an Fahrzeugen oder Motoren. Set sail! Before the end of 2025, we will welcome two new vessels within our chartered fleet. These are part of a series of identical vessels which will be chartered by several companies including Neste. Last week, we celebrated the naming ceremony for the entire series of vessels together with these companies and vessel operator Terntank. The first vessel that will enter our chartered fleet was named Tern Land – and we can’t wait to welcome it into service. Vessel #2, which is still under construction, will be named at a later date. The naming ceremony provided a glimpse of the future: The two state-of-the-art tankers joining Neste’s chartered fleet by the end of the year will be equipped with foldable suction sails and hybrid electric power supply systems – they can also use e-methanol in their dual-fuel engines. Being able to carry a wide variety of liquid cargoes, including renewable raw materials and final fuel products, they will help us reduce the carbon footprint of our logistics. And if that wasn’t good news already: In 2027, we are going to welcome two additional vessels of the same kind within our fleet! #logistics #shipping #renewables
