Then this call is for you! Buen-TEK - S+T+ARTS Lab, the first S+T+ARTS initiative in South America, is looking for 10 artists/collectives to take part in a unique cross-continental project that connects ancestral wisdom with technological innovation, in close collaboration with local communities and translocal experts. Our researchers Patricio Reyes and Alex Gil represented us at the presentation of the program 'Generation D: Building Generation AI' 🙌 A Red.es initiative that promotes research in AI and digital transformation in public centers, and thanks to which the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, is training professionals in the field of AI and supercomputing. 🗨️ "The AI4S program was a great opportunity to join the BSC and its Data Viz Group, a multidisciplinary team with a lot of talent and involved in major AI-based projects, such as vCity, which we presented today," highlighted Alex. At the BSC Technology Corner, we presented some ongoing projects to representatives of the Ministerio para la Transformación Digital y de la Función Pública and the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades. Patricio presented the progress of our vCity project, highlighting the Proximity app that allows us to monitor the flow of pedestrians in the streets of Barcelona, as well as the influence of services and points of interest on the mobility of different types of pedestrians: residents, students, workers, tourists, among others. 🗨️ "It is very stimulating to present vCity and to see how well the web platform and its use cases are received," he concludes. BSC executive director, Josep M. (Pep) Martorell Rodon; AI Institute coordinator, Alba Vila Casademunt; and researcher Oriol Tintó also participated in the day. 👏 We are very proud to participate in these instances, presenting concrete results of a tool that focuses on building more sustainable cities centred on those who live in them. 👋 Last week at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, we received Nobuyasu Ito, Hiroyasu Inoue and Itsuki Noda, researchers from RIKEN, the National Research and Development Agency of Japan and home of Fugaku, the Japanese supercomputer located in the city of Kobe 🙌 Our researchers Carlos Garcia Calatrava, Fernando Cucchietti, Patricio Reyes, Roger González March, and Miriam Herrero Valea presented vCity progress, focusing on the models behind the Mobility, Cycling, and Sustainability Living Labs, while David García Povedano presented the Mobility app, which allows observing pedestrian flow in the streets of Barcelona. On the other hand, our researcher Marzieh Karimi-Haghighi shared details of the project with Diputació de Barcelona and its network of municipal libraries to improve recommendation services through models developed with AI. In addition, Guillermo Marin shared part of the projects we have developed in our Scientific Visualization and Storytelling line, and David demonstrated the GreenAir app, an educational tool to explore the basic concepts of air quality.   💬 "It is very important to have these meetings on a regular basis. Understanding what each team is working on is crucial to finding common ground, leveraging existing developments between the two teams, and looking for projects for joint funding. This is now more important than ever as Europe seeks to strengthen collaborative research with Japan", Carlos García, researcher and one of the hosts on this occasion. 👋 Hey everyone! We have a premiere 🎬 From our Scientific Visualization and Storytelling line, we transform complex data into powerful and scientifically accurate images. Our goal is clear: to support scientists to disseminate their research effectively. Today we would like to share #Aerospace, a project resulting from our collaboration with the Large-scale Computational Fluid Dynamics group of the CASE Department at Barcelona Supercomputing Center, led by Oriol Lehmkuhl. This work presents an important breakthrough: the simulation of the innovative Active Flow Control technique, which uses microjets on the wings of an aircraft and allows controlling the increase of transient turbulence, a growing challenge due to climate change. About our experience in this development, M Esteban Fernández, researcher of our team, highlights: 💬 “Applying techniques from industries such as VFX allows us to represent with greater fidelity the results of the immense simulations performed with Marenostrum 5, facilitating their analysis on laptops or even smartphones.” To this end, our team has developed multiVDB, an open source tool that allows visualizing simulations in visual effects software, achieving high quality representations that benefit both the scientific community and the popularization.
