Our researchers Patricio Reyes and Alex Gil represented us at the presentation of the program 'Generation D: Building Generation AI' 🙌 A Red.es initiative that promotes research in AI and digital transformation in public centers, and thanks to which the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, is training professionals in the field of AI and supercomputing. 🗨️ "The AI4S program was a great opportunity to join the BSC and its Data Viz Group, a multidisciplinary team with a lot of talent and involved in major AI-based projects, such as vCity, which we presented today," highlighted Alex. At the BSC Technology Corner, we presented some ongoing projects to representatives of the Ministerio para la Transformación Digital y de la Función Pública and the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades. Patricio presented the progress of our vCity project, highlighting the Proximity app that allows us to monitor the flow of pedestrians in the streets of Barcelona, as well as the influence of services and points of interest on the mobility of different types of pedestrians: residents, students, workers, tourists, among others. 🗨️ "It is very stimulating to present vCity and to see how well the web platform and its use cases are received," he concludes. 🚀 Highlights from the 12th European Combustion Meeting in Edinburgh! 🔥✈️ Last week, members of the Propulsion Technology Group at the CASE Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center joined fellow researchers and experts to share ongoing work on sustainable combustion, including topics like #SAF, #hydrogen, GPU-accelerated numerical simulations, and supersonic mixing layers. 💡 The interest and engagement from the combustion community were truly inspiring — especially around the role of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) as one of the most practical and promising tools currently available to reduce aviation emissions. 👏 Special thanks to our colleagues for the joint work behind the presentation “Analysis of lab-scale spray flame and soot production of synthetic and conventional aviation fuels” — a real team effort! 🎥 Meet Martina Cans, PhD Candidate at the Propulsion Technologies Group of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center! Martina's journey began with a deep curiosity about the world around her, which led her to study physics at the University of Zaragoza. Eager to apply her scientific knowledge, she pursued a master’s degree in renewable energy in Barcelona. Now, Martina is contributing to cutting-edge research at BSC, focusing on #combustion at high temperatures and pressures. Her research is key to developing advanced energy cycles, such as supercritical CO2 cycles, which promise higher energy efficiency for turbines used in the transport sector, including #aviation. By studying real gas equations and comparing them with ideal gas models, Martina is helping improve #simulations that can revolutionise the way we approach energy production. 🌱 The goal? 🔬 In our series on impactful projects that the CASE Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is leading, today we highlight the DREAMS project! 🌍 👃 With inflammatory diseases affecting over a billion people worldwide and representing a significant economic and social burden, DREAMS is revolutionizing the way we understand and treat #inflammatory respiratory diseases, particularly in children. Using computational fluid dynamics (#CFD) and high-performance computing (#HPC), the project simulates the human respiratory system at an unprecedented level of detail. This research is helping to improve inhaled treatments, to develop new therapeutic strategies, and enhance precision medicine approaches. 👨💻 🖥️ The researcher Beatriz Eguzkitza, PI of this initiative, is leading this ambitious project along with the other BSC researchers Silvia Ceccacci, Guillaume Houzeaux, hadrien calmet, and Carlos Arnedo Joya.
