🌍 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁! 🚨 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆? 5 countries with ICN members - Denmark, Canada, Belgium, Lithuania, and Austria - (have) 𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵. 🤯 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿! 💨 We are using up our planet's resources too fast. In 2024 Earth Overshoot Day was on August 1st, so humanity is currently using nature 1.7 times faster than our planet’s ecosystems can regenerate. Each year, we reach this day earlier. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆? 🌱 This marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. We maintain this deficit by liquidating stocks of ecological resources and accumulating waste, primarily carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? ↺ Earth Overshoot Day highlights our ecological deficit. We consume resources faster than they can be replenished. This depletes the planet's natural capital. It compromises future generations' needs. We must transition to sustainable lifestyles. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱? 🧮 Earth Overshoot Day compares humanity’s demand with Earth’s capacity. It involves dividing the planet’s capacity by humanity’s demand. The result is the date of Earth Overshoot Day. 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 📅 A country’s Overshoot Day marks when Earth Overshoot Day would fall. This is if all humanity consumed like that country. For example, Denmark’s Overshoot Day is March 19. Canada’s is March 26. Belgium’s is March 27. Lithuania’s is March 28. Austria’s is March 29. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 🔥 Earlier Overshoot Days mean greater ecological deficits. Countries with earlier days consume resources too fast. This leads to environmental degradation. It also causes loss of biodiversity and increased carbon emissions. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Reducing our footprint is crucial. We can achieve this through various actions! ♻️ 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Reduce waste and conserve energy. ⚡️ 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆: Use solar and wind power. 🐛 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Protect soil health and biodiversity. 👩🏻⚖️ 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Support policies for sustainability. Let’s take action to reduce our footprint.
