Exciting News from Santander 🇪🇸 ! Before wrapping up this week, we’re thrilled to share a fantastic new initiative at Las Llamas Park—one of our D4RUNOFF pilot areas. Our partners Nicolas Morales (Aqualia) and Jorge Rodríguez Hernández (Universidad de Cantabria) spearheaded the idea of installing a project poster in the park to: 🔎 Showcase the online sensors developed by INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory 💧 Inform local residents and stakeholders about the ongoing wetland effluent monitoring 📢 Raise overall awareness of D4RUNOFF’s work This installation is already making waves! It has caught the eye of park visitors and was recently featured during a technical visit with @redSUDS, where more than 130 experts learned about the monitoring activities. Big thanks to Three o'clock o’clock for designing the poster and bringing this concept to life. It's great seeing creative, hands-on ways to promote the project's work. An EU-funded project that aims at preventing and managing diffuse pollution from urban water runoff #waterpollution
Om os
Polluted water runoffs are one of the greatest threats to public health and biodiversity. Consisting of 13 partners across Europe, the #D4RUNOFFproject will investigate these events and their impact on urban water quality. The project will develop novel detection methods and sensors to improve monitoring of water management systems. It will also design a multi-criteria methodology and an AI-based platform to support decision-making for water utilities, urban planners and policy-makers in the design of cost-effective mitigation solutions. The partners involved in this project are: • VandCenter Syd • Odense Kommune • Aqualia • Hidrotec Tratamiento de Aguas, S.L. • ITG Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia • INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory • GEUS - Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland • Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen • Universidad de Cantabria • Three o'clock • Ingegnerie Toscane Srl • Mitiga Solutions • K Link S.r.l.

How do we keep our urban waterways clean and thriving? 🙌 By empowering citizens to take an active role in monitoring water quality 🔎 💦 . Our latest blog post presents WaterPatrol, a powerful initiative which is going to take place in Odense in Denmark in collaboration with University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet) VandCenter Syd and Odense Kommune. Selected individuals will take action to protect their local rivers, lakes, and canals! By collecting #runoff samples, they will contribute to the scientific work of #D4RUNOFF. Well done for this great initiative! #FactsMatter, today more than ever. But environmental and climate disinformation already account for 12% of all disinformation content in the 🇪🇺 That is more than any disinformation related to the Ukraine (11%) or COVID-19 (7%), according to a European Digital Media Observatory study in 2023. Additionally, extreme weather events and environmental pollution are short-term risks on their own, threatening societal stability, says the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report 2025 👉 https://lnkd.in/etw9fvCg Time to step up our game fighting fake news. #FactcheckingDay

💧 Recap: Lessons from World Water Day 2025 💧 Yesterday, we had the privilege of co-hosting an engaging discussion on Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in water resilience with five leading EU-funded projects: EU PROJECT WATERUN, D4RUNOFF, StopUP, NICE NbS, and MULTISOURCE. With insights spanning Poland, Colombia, Tunis, and Denmark, our speakers shared invaluable case studies, addressing key challenges and opportunities in implementing NbS for improved water quality and flood resilience. Key Takeaways from our NICE experts from our pilots in Gdansk (Poland), Turin (Italy), and Pereira (Colombia): ✅ Testing is essential to identify the limitations of NbS, ensuring continuous improvement and adaptation. ✅ NbS have shown greater resilience than expected, reinforcing their role as a reliable solution for water management. ✅ The visible benefits of NbS confirm their potential as an optimal alternative for the water cycle, climate change mitigation, and water quality improvement. Speaker Insights: 💧“NbS are a great solution to solve challenges in different cities. We are testing these technologies so it's impossible to avoid problems, but it is important to test so that we can find the limitations and develop better solutions.” – Dr. Daiane Trevisan, CETIM (NICE) 💧Dr. Carlos Arias, Aarhus University (NICE, Waterrun, MULTISOURCE)- Dr. Arias is an experienced water expert, and thus has contributed to multiple presentations today through his work at Aarhus University. His team exchanges regularly with a variety of projects and between regions to share best practices. For example, in his MULTISOURCE presentation today we learned that by involving stakeholders early on that social acceptance of new solutions increases. 💧“All projects are facing similar problems in different approaches. These kinds of meetings should be arranged more frequently to tackle the challenges we are all facing: Water pollution, runoff, social acceptance problems, political problems. These are really difficult. The work at the University, us doing the research, is ahead of the legislation. That is something we have to tackle and advocate for legislation.”- Dr. Carlos Arias A huge thank you to all our speakers and participants for contributing to a lively and informative exchange. Missed the session? Stay connected for upcoming insights and future discussions! More in depth session recaps are in the works from D4RUNOFF and sister projects. #WorldWaterDay #NatureBasedSolutions #WaterResilience #Sustainability #NICENbS
