Master your check-ins: 3 ways to get to know your participants 🕵️♂️ A well-framed check-in question does more than break the ice—it helps you understand who’s in the room with you, and tailor your sessions for maximum impact! It also opens up the conversations to why your session might be important for them. Here are four approaches, with real examples from our facilitator friends 🔥 1️⃣ Check their skill level or how familiar they are with the topic Example: Pedro asked "What’s your experience with facilitation?" before leading a workshop on facilitation styles. Nathy checked "How far along are you in your freelance journey?" before her workshop on freelancing. 👉 Why it works: You can gauge expertise levels and adapt the session to meet participants where they are. This also helps you provide relevant advice and guide participants toward their next steps. 2️⃣ Explore participants’ current activities or focus areas Example: Will asked "What are you up to at the moment?" before teaching about building healthy communities. 👉 Why it works: You get real-world context that allows you to connect your content to participants’ realities. 3️⃣ Uncover participants’ goals, intentions, or the projects they care about Example: Anamaria asked "What communities are you building?" to kick off her workshop on co-creation. 👉 Why it works: You can align the workshop with participants' aspirations and invite them to share more about their goals. 💡 What’s your go-to check-in question to get to know your participants? Share your ideas in the comments below! 👇
