The milestone was proudly commemorated by members of the Bridge and Engine Room teams in formation. Achieving this level of safety performance over such an extended period is a result of continuous vigilance, discipline and shared accountability. It blends operational efficiency with a culture that places the highest priority on human wellbeing—ensuring that no crew member or visitor has lost a single day due to injury or illness on board the "GLOBE ATLAS" in more than seven years. As well as being a heartwarming thought, and showcasing Synergy Marine Group’s emphasis on safety, this attainment is to the great credit of everyone who has served on the "GLOBE ATLAS" over the past seven years—looking after themselves, and each other, with care and professionalism. This remarkable achievement is echoed by sister LPG vessels "TRAMMO PARIS" and "GAS STELLA", which have recently completed six and seven years LTI-free, respectively. These milestones speak to the deep-rooted safety mindset across Synergy’s fleet and the unwavering commitment of our seafarers and shore-based teams alike. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗷𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗨𝗻𝗻𝗶 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 We are pleased to share that the National Maritime Varuna Award—India’s highest civilian recognition in the maritime sector—has been conferred on our founder, Captain Rajesh Unni, during the 62nd National Maritime Day celebrations held in Mumbai on 5 April. Accepted with characteristic humility by Captain Unni, who has dedicated much of his life to advancing maritime excellence, sustainability, digitalisation and seafarer welfare, the award was presented by Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping. This national honour recognises individuals whose sustained and extraordinary contributions have helped reshape the Indian maritime landscape. Captain Unni’s recognition reflects his pioneering work in global ship management, digital transformation and human sustainability. In his own words: “I am deeply honoured to receive the National Maritime Varuna Award. 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱   As the maritime industry navigates a period of profound transformation—driven by decarbonisation, digitalisation and evolving trade dynamics—from 25 to 27 March in Singapore Sea Asia 2025 provided a pivotal forum for dialogue on the future of shipbuilding.   During the panel discussion titled “Shipbuilding – A Macro View,” Subodh Borse, Managing Director – Newbuilding & Offshore Projects at Synergy Marine Group, joined fellow industry leaders including Adam Kent (Managing Director, Maritime Strategies International), Craig Patrick (Chief Commercial Officer, Silverstream Technologies) and Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria (COO – Maritime, DNV).    The session was moderated by Yiannis P., Head of Research at Intermodal Shipbrokers, and some of the key takeaways were:   ⚙️ 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗿 Engine retrofits can deliver significant emissions reductions, though such upgrades are typically viable for only a limited segment of the fleet. Meanwhile, technologies like WASP (Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems), air lubrication and energy-saving devices offer near-term benefits with operational value.   🆕 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘃 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁: 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 Around 50% of the global order book, rising to nearly 69% in the container segment, now features alternative fuel designs. While this reflects growing momentum, many vessels ordered today may still require retrofitting within a decade, in order to align with decarbonisation targets. The retrofit-newbuild decision ultimately depends on trade patterns, lifecycle economics and regulatory timelines. 🤝 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 Industrywide decarbonisation will rely on stronger integration across ship design, operations, fuel sourcing and chartering. 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴   On 26 March 2025 the Global Maritime Forum (GMF) launched the Sustainable Crewing Guidelines — a significant step towards improving the lives of the seafarers who support our global supply chains.   Co-developed by the GMF’s All Aboard Alliance together with 12 leading companies, including Synergy Marine Group, these guidelines offer a clear, evidence-based roadmap to enhance safety, inclusion and long-term workforce retention across the maritime sector.   Nine key recommendations include: 👷♀️ Clear anti-harassment protocols 📈 Rank-specific training and appraisal standards 🧰 Inclusive PPE and sanitary provisions 📶 Reliable internet access at sea 👨👩👧👦 Paid parental leave The Sustainable Crewing Guidelines are based on years of research and pilot programmes, including seafarer input from the project’s pilot vessels, such as the Synergy-managed Aframaxes “Southern Reverence” and “Southern Respect”, which were among the first to implement inclusive crewing models at sea.   At the launch, held in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week, Captain Rajesh Unni remarked: “Human sustainability is not a peripheral agenda—it is the touchstone by which the maritime sector must define its values. On International Women’s Day 2025, themed "𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻," the maritime industry faces a choice: will we just discuss inclusion, or will we take meaningful steps to drive real change? At our annual seafarers' seminar, we brought this conversation to the forefront, with voices from across the organisation—both ashore and at sea—emphasizing that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are essential to the future of shipping. Bindu Vinodhan, with her extensive experience in organizational effectiveness and leading global HR and DEI teams at multinational corporations, and now empowering women in tribal villages through her own Mauna Dhwani Foundation, opened the discussion by reframing DEI as something beyond what was set out in many companies’ policies: "DEI is often misunderstood as just gender balance, and diversity is only part of the story. It is very important, but equity and inclusion are what truly matters. If we don’t remove systemic barriers, we are not creating opportunities—we are just ticking boxes."   She illustrated this with a compelling analogy: "Giving everyone a stool of the same height, or shoes of the same size, isn’t equity. Recognizing everyone’s individual needs, and removing obstacles so that all can take part in everything—that’s real inclusion." Captain Savraj Mehta, Chief Commercial Officer at NorthStandard, has witnessed shipping’s transformation over 50 years and sees DEI as a defining shift: "It’s harder to be kind than to be clever." Recalling a lesson that Jeff Bezos learned from his grandfather during a childhood road trip, he emphasized that while intelligence is valuable, true leadership lies in empathy: "DEI isn’t just a business strategy—it’s about human decency, how we treat each other, and the small actions that create workplaces where everyone belongs." Captain Rajesh Unni framed DEI as a business and industry imperative:  "The companies that thrive are the ones that embrace change before they are forced to. DEI isn’t about ticking boxes or meeting quotas—it’s about building a future where the best talent, regardless of background, wants to be part of our industry. If we don’t create that environment, we won’t just lose the inclusion battle—we’ll lose the best and brightest minds to industries that do it better. And that’s a loss that shipping cannot afford." Also part of the discussion were  Capt.Aakriti Barthwal, Synergy’s Senior QHSE Superintendent, who spoke about ensuring inclusion is systemic, not symbolic; Second Engineer Naznin Shamim, who highlighted how diverse teams build resilience and excellence; and Captain Kaushik Basu, a Synergy sailing Master, who shared his insights on fostering an inclusive and supportive culture on board.
