Excited to share this podcast I had the pleasure of contributing to – together with an incredible group of experts and partners! We explore how collaboration and cutting-edge technology are enabling large-scale mapping, restoration, and conservation of seagrass meadows along Italy’s coastline — a global first of its kind. It was a real honour to join Benoit CAJELOT (Fugro), Francesco Luigi Cinelli (Università di Pisa), Knut Hartmann (EOMAP ), and Giordano Giorgi (ISPRA) to discuss the science, tech, and impact behind this groundbreaking work. If you're curious about how innovation can drive marine restoration at scale, how to scale seagrass restoration to support nation-wide management, or how data can translate into real-world action – this one’s worth a listen. 🎧 Tune in here: https://bit.ly/42exYpw #Seagrass #Conservation #MarineRestoration #hydrospatial World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) Seabed 2030 World Economic Forum World Economic Forum Sustainable Ocean Alliance Geospatial World Forum (GWF)

In the field with Ocean Ecostructures! We’re excited to share that PlanBlue and Ocean Ecostructures have just wrapped up a successful field mission in the waters of Palamós (Port Marina Palamós) and Vilanova (Pendennis Vilanova), Spain. Together, we tested a new methodology to assess the performance of artificial reefs, focusing on biomass measurements. By combining PlanBlue’s seafloor mapping technology with Ocean Ecostructures’ nature-positive solutions, we’re pioneering ways to quantify the true impact of restoration efforts. What makes this collaboration so exciting? A strong alignment in our missions to protect and restore marine ecosystems at scale – by combining innovative tech, scalable solutions, and measurable impact. This is only the beginning, and we’re looking forward to continuing this journey together. #OceanRestoration #ArtificialReefs #MarineInnovation #Biodiversity #SeafloorMapping #NaturePositive

Different environments require tailored solutions — and that's exactly why we've developed our sensor package to be highly flexible and easily adaptable to a wide range of use cases and conditions.   We’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes look from our recent trip to the Bahamas where our CTO Guy Rigot demonstrates how our technology functions as a towed solution in real-world conditions. Whether in coastal zones or over remote reef systems, #PlanBlue's adaptable payload enables high-resolution, hyperspectral seafloor monitoring — at scale.   #Hyperspectral #Multispectral #BigData #OceanData #Innovation #GeoData

#CoralReefs are disappearing at an alarming rate, and urgent action is needed to save them at scale.   During my recent trip to the #Bahamas, I found a beach that vividly illustrates the massive die-off of coral reefs in the Caribbean—an issue that often goes unnoticed beneath the surface of the ocean. These vital ecosystems are vanishing faster than we realize, but how can we turn the tide? In this video, I’ll explain how PlanBlue’s advanced ocean monitoring technology and data solutions can play a crucial role in restoring marine habitats and helping us protect these critical ecosystems for the future.   #ActNow #Coral #MarineConservation #OceanRestoration #seagrass

On Saturday 1 March it was World Seagrass Day. 🌿🌊 Seagrass meadows are unsung heroes in our fight against climate change. These ecosystems can capture carbon up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests, making them vital for reducing greenhouse gases and fighting global warming. By trapping and storing carbon dioxide, seagrasses play a big role in "blue carbon" storage, helping to keep our planet healthy. We're helping to restore seagrass meadows in Italy through ISPRA’s Marine Ecosystem Restoration project. Along with CGR Compagnia Generale Ripreseaeree , PlanBlue, and EOMAP (a Fugro company), we're working on the mapping part of this important project. Our advanced technology and teamwork let us map and monitor these vital habitats with great accuracy, which helps us plan effective restoration and support long-term conservation. Restoring seagrass meadows is key for: • Building climate resilience • Supporting biodiversity • Protecting coastlines By restoring damaged seagrass meadows and protecting the ones we have, we're helping to create a healthier, more sustainable future for our oceans and our planet. 🌍💙 #WorldSeagrassDay #Fugro #EOMAP #PlanBlue #CGR #MarineRestoration #Hydrospatial

Thank you to Economist Impact for organizing the insightful panel "Building a Global Movement to Restore #Coral Reef Ecosystems," with Peter Thomson, Raquel Peixoto, Professor David Smith, Rili Djohani, Margaux Monfared, and Daniel Franklin. Below are some key highlights and thoughts I would like to share: There is a clear consensus on the urgency to take action to prevent further damage to our oceans. Time is running out, and I particularly appreciated Peter Thomson's summary of the critical need to prevent the extinction of coral reefs and combat climate change: > We cannot have a healthy planet without a healthy ocean. > Healthy oceans rely on coral reefs, which play a crucial role in the life cycles of marine species. However, they will not survive if ocean temperatures rise beyond 3°C. > The IPCC highlights that we are rapidly approaching a 3°C increase in ocean temperatures, as we continue to release anthropogenic greenhouse gases and burn fossil fuels. > We must transition to renewable energy to save coral reefs. > Until this transition happens, we must work to keep coral reefs alive long enough for renewable energy solutions to be implemented. However, one aspect I feel was missing from the discussion was the critical role of industry—not only as investors or financiers but as enablers for the large-scale realization of solutions. While scientific knowledge is essential and research remains necessary, we already have a clear understanding of what changes need to be made. What is still missing is the scalability and economic viability of implementing these solutions. Industry, with its ability to drive large-scale projects, implement best practices in business operations, and leverage resources, will play a significant role in shaping the future of our planet. How can we monetize carbon reduction and carbon sinks? How can we ensure that coastal and offshore usage are nature-positive or, at the very least, significantly reduce its negative impacts while still driving revenue? Governments, NGOs, and local communities are vital, but in this race for survival, industry and economists must also be key players. I look forward to continuing this important conversation and working together to drive the change our ocean and planet urgently need. #ActNow #OceanConservation #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #RenewableEnergy #Hydrospatial

Let's keep the end goal in mind. During the great conferences and discussions I participated in the last few months, I noticed that debates about the details can distract from the big picture. Here are some of my reflections that I recorded during #COP16.   #EcosystemHealth #NaturePostive #Biodiversity #Pollution
