Wir müssen den Weltraum als Chancenraum begreifen!

Das sehen auch die wirtschaftspolitischen Sprecherinnen und Sprecher der CDU/CSU-Landtagsfraktionen so: Folglich stand bei ihrer Tagung in Bremen auch die #Raumfahrt im Fokus. Beim Besuch bei OHB SE tauschten sie sich mit unserem Vorstand Sabine von der Recke und Dr. Arne Gausepohl (CEO OHB Digital) aus und verabschiedeten anschließend ein Raumfahrtpapier. Die Botschaft: Deutschland und Europa müssen technologisch souverän bleiben!

Die Erklärung fordert u. a. gezielte Investitionen in Schlüsseltechnologien, einen privaten #Spaceport in der deutschen Nordsee und einen stärkeren deutschen Beitrag zur Europäischen Weltraumorganisation #ESA. Gerade im Vorfeld der ESA-Ministerratskonferenz in Bremen im November 2025 ist das ein starkes Signal.

Join the “Copernicus Demonstrators - Mobility and Emergency” Workshop in Bremen! On May 6, industry experts and stakeholders will come together in Bremen to explore cutting-edge solutions powered by Copernicus Earth observation data. The workshop is part of the EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme-funded project “Copernicus Demonstrators – Mobility and Emergency.” It is coordinated by OHB Digital Services GmbH, which belongs to our Business Unit #OHBDIGITAL. The event will showcase three innovative Proof-of-Concepts (POC). These solutions address key challenges in aviation, disaster management, and maritime industries: ▪️ POC 1 - Aircraft Emission Measurement and Monitoring by S[&]T: To support monitoring of the aviation industry, POC 1 provides high-resolution air quality insights to airport operators and inspection agencies. Its intuitive user interface integrates into operational processes, enabling easy analysis of air quality trends and comparisons against regulations. ▪️POC 2 - Emergency Preparedness and Early warning of Floods by Waterjade: Waterjade's flood early warning system integrates high-resolution Copernicus data with hydrological and hydraulic modelling and is able to forecast the occurrence of extreme precipitation and evaluate the possible extension of flooding in cities and facilities (such as water utilities and power plants). ▪️POC 3 - Autonomous Navigation and Ship route optimization by OHB LuxSpace: In order to help minimize the impact of biofouling—estimated at $30 billion in extra fuel and up to a 55% increase in GHG emissions—the SAILFIN platform uses a combination of physical and biological parameters from the rich data set provided daily by the Copernicus Marine Service (CMS) with Automated Identification System (AIS) data and provides to the users with a daily and historical global, regional, and per-vessel biofouling risk assessment. Sichere Kommunikation, autonome Navigation und Frühwarnsysteme – schon heute bietet die #Raumfahrt wichtige Fähigkeiten für unsere Sicherheit auf der Erde. Doch das Potenzial geht weit darüber hinaus: „Für eine wirklich resiliente und vernetzte Infrastruktur im Weltraum müssen wir umdenken. Aufklärungs-, Kommunikations- und Navigationsfähigkeiten dürfen nicht isoliert betrachtet werden, sondern sollten als Teil eines ganzheitlichen Systems über alle Orbits hinweg zusammenarbeiten. Am Ende zählt für alle nur eines: Alle verfügbaren Daten so schnell wie möglich als nutzbares Endprodukt zu erhalten. Genau das muss die Entwicklung unserer Systeme antreiben“, erklärt Sabine von der Recke, Vorstandsmitglied der OHB System AG, auf der #GOSATCOM, einer der führenden Konferenzen für satellitengestützte Sicherheit und Verteidigung im Munich Center for Space Communications. Doch Sicherheit bedeutet nicht nur, den Blick nach oben zu richten. Ein eigenständiger Zugang zum All ist entscheidend für Europas Unabhängigkeit. „Wir brauchen mehr Launcher und Startplätze in Europa, denn nur so können wir echte Responsive Space-Fähigkeiten aufbauen und flexibel auf neue Herausforderungen reagieren.“

📢 We have expanded into the #UK with a new company in Bristol! 🇬🇧 This development represents a significant milestone and is a strong statement of our ambitious vision to actively shape the future of space technology and strengthen #Europe’s space sector. Our new company in Bristol will host and develop critical knowledge in all relevant #space domains with the aim to also take on system level responsibility. Sarah Jones, Minister of Industry of the United Kingdom: “I am pleased to make the official announcement that OHB SE has established an UK operation. It is a great indicator of the opportunity that a company such as OHB sees in the UK space sector.” Today at Farnborough International Space Show we not only officially announced the establishment of our new company, but also signed an MoU with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). Dr Cyrus Larijani, Strategic Business Development Manager at NPL: "This partnership represents a significant step forward in our commitment to advancing space technologies and fostering #innovation in the UK. I look forward to the innovative projects and research that will emerge from this collaboration.” Dr Kim Lake, Head of Science and Earth Observation for OHB Space UK: “OHB Space UK is very excited to partner with NPL. Collaborations such as this are key to OHB Space UK to drive the innovation and development of the next generation of UK space technology.”

OHB SE at the Münchner Management Kolloquium - Driving Innovation in Aerospace & Space 🌍 At the #MMK25, the CEO of OHB System AG, Chiara Pedersoli, shared her insights on the panel "Space Race – #Innovation from Aerospace & Space." During the discussion, she emphasized the crucial role of space technologies in shaping our future – from sustainability and connectivity to cutting-edge advancements in exploration. The exchange of ideas with industry leaders and experts highlighted the dynamic nature of the aerospace sector and the power of innovation. An important aspect was also the balance between regulation and innovation in the European space industry – ensuring safety and sustainability while fostering agility and competitiveness. Beyond the space industry, the dialogue with experts from other sectors was equally valuable. Understanding how different industries tackle challenges provided fresh perspectives on shared issues – from technological transformation and AI to regulatory frameworks and workforce development. Following the panel, Chiara Pedersoli engaged with participants at the Speakers’ Corner, fostering thought-provoking discussions. 🛰️ Have you followed the Hera #Mars swing-by? Impressive. The gravity of the red planet shifted the spacecraft’s trajectory towards its final destination, the binary asteroid system #Didymos. This complex flight maneuver shortened Heras journey by months while also saving fuel. Congrats to all teams around the world who worked so hard to make this happen. “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together. In just four years, we have developed, built, and tested this spacecraft — under immense pressure and at a pace that is truly extraordinary. There were countless challenges, setbacks, and difficult decisions, especially during the critical moments of our tight schedule. But in those decisive times, we made the right choices. Hera has successfully completed her swing-by at Mars, and the instruments were switched on to capture this historic moment”, said Stefan Voegt, Hera project manager at #OHB. “The moment we saw the images of Mars on our screens was not just a technical achievement, but a testament to the entire team. We have proven that with passion, dedication, and collaboration a project like Hera is possible and we learned a lot which is now crucial for building up the mission to examine the asteroid Apophis, said Diego Calzolaio, who was the Hera chief engineer and is now the project manager for RAMSES (Rapid Apophis Mission for Space Safety) under the prime OHB Italia S.p.A. Again, little time for him and his team to build a spacecraft - #Apophis will be passing Earth's surface as early as 13 April 2029. So, space safety becomes more and more important. #Hera is European Space Agency - ESAs first planetary defence mission and an inspiring example of what we can achieve when we work together across borders: 18 European countries plus Japan, the United States, and scientists worldwide are involved. Do look up! Die nächste große Idee beginnt im Weltraum!💡 #Asteroiden, die der Erde gefährlich nah kommen, sind keine Seltenheit – wie zuletzt Asteroid 2024 YR4. Unser #Flyeye-Teleskop, gebaut von OHB Italia S.p.A., liest den Himmel wie ein offenes Buch. Mit seinem großen Gesichtsfeld, das den Komplexaugen einer Fliege nachempfunden ist, kann das Teleskop in einer einzigen Nacht den Großteil des sichtbaren Himmels erfassen. Dadurch kann frühzeitig vor drohenden Asteroideneinschlägen gewarnt werden. Solche Innovationen brauchen mehr als visionäre Technik – sie brauchen strategische Investitionen und Planungssicherheit. #Raumfahrt ist unverzichtbar für unsere technologische #Souveränität und wirtschaftliche Wettbewerbsfähigkeit.
