🚗 This week, April 8–10, the WCX™ World Congress Experience 2025, powered by SAE, is taking place in Detroit, MI — one of the premier global events in mobility engineering. Over the three-day conference, six Vehicle Aerodynamics sessions will be featured: https://lnkd.in/dARQ5PBG I'm excited to share that Mark Gleason (Gleason Aero LLC), one of this year’s session organizers, will present our latest SAE Technical Paper: 2025-01-8786 “Investigation of the Blockage Phenomenon in Closed Wall Wind Tunnels During the Testing of Bluff Automotive Bodies with Large Wakes in Yawed Configurations.” I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to co-author this work and to contribute to this highly relevant research on wind tunnel physics. Our PACEFISH CFD software played a key role by enabling Mark to run a large number of simulations — efficiently, cost-effectively, and independently — thanks to our streamlined workflows, robust numerics, and powerful GPU acceleration. The exceptional sensitivity and reliability of our solver, as demonstrated in the Case2 A/B delta-study at the recent AutoCFD4 Workshop (Belfast, Sept. 2024), was essential in capturing the nuanced effects of gradual configuration changes. This marks our fourth SAE Technical Paper in collaboration (following 2022-01-0887, 2024-01-2531, and 2024-01-2534), and this time, we focus on blockage effects ranging from 0.4% to 14% across yaw angles of 0°, 3°, 6°, 10°, 15°, and 20°. Three bluff automotive geometries were used to represent large wake scenarios: 🚙 DrivAer Estate model with detailed underbody and wheels 🚗 AeroSUV model with detailed underbody and wheels 🚐 Utility Van model with detailed underbody, wheels, and radiator simulation 📍 Don’t miss Mark’s presentation on Wednesday, April 9th at 9:00 a.m. (local time) in Room 358, Session Code SS800. We look forward to sharing our findings and discussing how to better understand and model blockage in wind tunnel testing. #sae #wcx2025 #pacefish #cfd #gpus

🚀 Exciting News! 🚀 We’re thrilled to announce that our #GPU-accelerated #LBM-based #CFD solver, #Pacefish, now offers direct support for nTop Implicit geometry format in full production! 🎉 With this update, handling nTop geometries is as seamless as working with STL geometry files. You can now enjoy the same depth of features and flexibility, fully integrating nTop implicit geometries into your simulation workflows with Pacefish. 💡 Key Highlights: ✅ Pacefish Workbench Integration: Effortlessly load, position, and scale nTop geometries in your simulation domain. Use them for setting up solids, fluid regions, boundary conditions, roughness definitions, and more! ✅ Short Iteration Cycles: As demonstrated with the HEX3 Heat Exchanger demo, pressure drop results at 0.45 mm spatial resolution (10M voxels) were achieved in under 7 minutes—covering meshing, simulation, data export, and postprocessing—using just 2x NVIDIA ADA GPUs. This breakthrough empowers manual and AI-driven optimization workflows, unlocking unprecedented efficiency and accuracy. 🛠️ Pacefish Benefits: • CBFL Boundary Treatment: Our proprietary "Corrected Bounce-Back with Local Interpolation" (CBFL) technique resolves mass defects while preserving the precision and complexity of implicit geometries. • Local Octree Refinement: Achieve finer resolutions with fewer cells. Refine from 0.5 mm to 0.25 mm with only a 4x increase in cell count (versus 8x in solvers without this feature). • Advanced Turbulence Modeling: Built on the robust k-Omega-SST turbulence model, our unique LBM implementation blends hybrid RANS/LES turbulence modeling for optimal performance, including accurate stress predictions in boundary layers. This works reliably for both, low and high Reynolds-Number setups. We’re excited to see how our customers leverage these new capabilities to achieve even more benefits in their production workflows.

#Siemens has announced its full acquisition of #Altair in a deal valued around $10B. Among Altair's offerings is the GPU-accelerated, LBM-based solver #ultraFluidX. Interestingly, #Pacefish and #ultraFluidX share some foundational history. Both originated from a project called "LBultra", which I initiated as a student research project during my aeronautics studies at TUM (Technical University Munich). After completing my studies in 2010, I joined a company to commercialize the LBultra prototype. In 2013, I chose to pursue an independent path, and my collaboration contract allowed me to retain a copy of my work, which has since evolved into #Pacefish. The remaining version was renamed #ultraFluidX, which #Altair later acquired and has now become part of Siemens’ portfolio. It's been interesting to see how these early developments have continued to grow within the industry.
