Institute of Fluid Mechanics - Lehrstuhl für Strömungsmechanik A dedicated institute of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg, engaged in research and education on both laminar and turbulent transport of mass, momentum, and energy in natural and technical processes. We are particularly fascinated by fluid mechanics as an integrative interdisciplinary subject, bridging natural and engineering sciences, applied mathematics, informatics, medicine, and human biology. Our research domains focus intensively on specific areas of expertise. In the realm of education, we offer our students over 30 courses across various programs including Chemical and Bioengineering, Life Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering – Sustainable Chemical Technologies, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, Advanced Materials and Processes, Computational Engineering, and Medical Engineering. Our courses span not only core concepts of fluid mechanics but also delve deeper into specialized topics, providing a comprehensive understanding of interdisciplinary applications. We view fluid mechanics as cross-disciplinary field between natural and engineering sciences, including applied mathematics and informatics, and are particularly interested in its applications to medicine and human biology. The institute is organized in ten different areas, each of which focuses on several research subjects. We offer more than 30 Bachelor and Master courses in the following programs: Chemical and Biological Engineering, Life Sciences Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, Advanced Materials and Processes, Computational Engineering and Medical Engineering. Our courses range from elementary topics in Fluid Mechanics to its applications across disciplines.
