Info

Let's set scale things up! We made it into this year’s Scale-up.NRW batch! Out of more than 100 startups, we secured one of the exclusive accelerator spots. Over the next 18 months, we’ll gain insights from top entrepreneurs, collaborate with leading startups, and accelerate our growth with expert support. The top-tier initiative was launched by the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes NRW and is driven by digihub - Digital Innovation Hub Düsseldorf/Rheinland GmbH and Start2 Group. Huge thanks to everyone who made this possible - excited to grow and learn alongside so many outstanding startups! March 19, the journey begins. Stay tuned!

In chemistry, textiles or politics - collective brilliance creates the best solutions. At the Future Transformation Leaders Summit in Düsseldorf, our co-founder Steffen Gerlach represented us and engaged in discussions with NRW Minister Mona Neubaur and Winfried Golla from VCI NRW alongside other pioneering chemical startups like cylib (with Lilian Schwich) and IonKraft (with Benedikt Heuer). Together, they explored how to address key challenges such as lengthy approval processes, insufficient infrastructure, and the need for targeted funding to scale chemical technologies. As a textile recycling startup, we shared our strategy and expertise for turning waste into valuable resources and emphasized the role of collaboration and supportive systems for scaling our solution. It was an inspiring day, full of productive, honest exchange about the key topics crucial not just for us but also for other deep tech startups. A big thanks to Martin Bellof and Stefan Weber from chemstars for organizing this important event! Leaving the summit, we’re confident that the insights have laid strong groundwork and look forward to seeing NRW grow as a leading hub for next-gen chemical companies.

“Labeling recycled products as ‘sustainable’ can be misleading - if they’re quickly discarded (!), CO₂ emissions can actually increase. That’s why we need to move away from faster and faster fashion cycles." A year after winning the #ImpactAward, our founder Steffen Gerlach returned to the IMPACT FESTIVAL stage with Brighter Futures' Kate Rushton for a discussion and this year’s Award ceremony. Congratulations to Alganize on winning - well deserved! In their conversation on impact-driven communication, Steffen emphasized the critical need for transparency and addressed the industry’s ongoing greenwashing problem, which might lead to a rebound effect in textile recycling. The rebound effect happens when the perceived environmental benefits of a sustainable innovation - like recycling - lead to increased consumption, ultimately worsening environmental impact. In our case, labeling products as “sustainable” simply because they’re recycled can create a misleading cycle. Consumers may feel justified in buying more of this “sustainable” clothing, only to wear it briefly before disposing of it. If this pattern continues, overall CO₂ emissions could rise, as the largest environmental impact in fashion stems from the energy-intensive production process. Recycling is essential and it’s one part of a comprehensive approach. Our systemic perspective for the textile industry considers recycling alongside efforts to extend the lifespan of garments and ensure clear communication. By prioritizing durability and transparent messaging, we can maximize the positive impact of recycling, reduce waste, and ultimately lessen the ecological footprint of our clothing!
