Next Pharma Manufacturing In Europe - We’re thrilled to announce that under the lead of our co-founder and managing director Tino Mundt, we have successfully completed our next tech transfer to a European manufacturer! This milestone moves us closer to bringing our next product for pharma production to a commercial scale. One of the immense challenges we are tackling is the production of a critical starting materials right here in Europe — processes that haven't been done locally for years. Why? Starting materials are often small molecules that are hard to innovate due to their simplicity, and many currently rely on imports, particularly from China. But to build a resilient healthcare system, having secure, independent supply chains is essential. Tino Mundt: "We’re proud to say that we developed a production route at a competitive price, ensuring that local production can meet market demands affordably. Reliable local production of these key materials helps fight against drug shortages in pharmacies and mitigates risks at a larger level. In times of geopolitical tension, we must avoid vulnerabilities that could impact national health—a vital infrastructure." During our recent lab and analytical familiarization in Budapest, our team supervised the implementation and visited the future production plant from SONEAS Chemicals Ltd. Exciting times ahead! A big shoutout to all the colleagues from DUDE CHEM and SONEAS Chemicals Ltd. involved to make this happen! We look very much forward to this partnership to strengthen Western manufacturing! #GreenChemistry #HealthcareResilience #TechTransfer #SupplyChainSecurity

🧪An important topic was raised by our Berlin-based portfolio company DUDE CHEM. As a green chemical manufacturer, the company is focused on creating #value by minimizing #waste. According to Eurostat, ~167 million tons of hazardous chemical waste are produced in Europe every year, posing significant environmental risks and incurring substantial costs. 🤯 DUDE CHEM is turning these alarming statistics into an opportunity. Using its water-based synthesis processes, the company plans to reduce waste by 40%, reshaping both the environmental and financial landscape of pharmaceutical production.♻️ DUDE CHEM’s system is a game-changer in active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing. It lowers raw material consumption, cuts waste treatment costs, streamlines processes and reduces the harmful impact on the environment. The outcome is a more sustainable and profitable production model that beneficial for both industry and the planet. 🌍 We call that impact-driven innovation, and we’re proud of DUDE CHEM’s development of sustainable solutions to global challenges. 🙌 #sustainability #innovation #impact #chemicalwaste Simone Laura Daphne Anieke Bertrand Lorenz Jen Floortje Reinoud Sonja

When Deeptech meets Entrepreneurship Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting students from thinc! in one of our offices, the entrepreneurship initiative of the University of Mannheim, on the final stop of their Berlin Startup Tour. At DUDE CHEM, we are combining green chemistry with cutting-edge computational tools to bringing pharmaceutical production back to Europe in a way that’s greener, cheaper, and more resilient. Tino Mundt, Alexandre Vieira Silva, and Dr. Marion Trautbeck-Kim shared our vision, explained the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry, and walked the group through how deeptech can (and must) be explained beyond the lab bench. At DUDE CHEM, we believe that even non-technical team members should understand what’s happening on the technical level – because in deeptech, the “tech” is the product. During their visit, the students engaged in a technical case study focused on supply chain resilience, exploring how geopolitical shifts impact pharma and how DUDE CHEM’s model addresses these challenges. Many thanks to Thinc! for the visit, the questions, and the curiosity. We’re excited to see the next generation of founders thinking about science, sustainability, and scale – together. 📣 A really important example of how small and medium-sized enterprises can affect European regulations on medicinal products. 💊 In January, the European Commission launched the Critical Medicines Act to bolster the security of supply and availability of critical medicinal products. Over four weeks, the call for evidence gathered stakeholders' input to shape effective policy measures. (Read the initiative here: https://lnkd.in/enTS6CaR) Our portfolio company DUDE CHEM responded to the call, emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen Europe’s pharmaceutical resilience. Highlighting Europe’s declining investment in chemical production in comparison to global competitors, DUDE CHEM advocates for fully using the potential of existing infrastructure through faster regulatory pathways and financial incentives. 🚀 DUDE CHEM stresses the support of innovation-driven enterprises as a way to ensure long-term pharmaceutical security and bring critical production back to Europe. The feedback period is now closed and stakeholders await the Commission’s next steps: the adoption of the act is set for early 2026. ⏰ Well done, Team DUDE CHEM! 👏 #criticalmedicinesact #pharmaceuticals #innovation #impactstartups Simone Daphne Laura Anieke Floortje Jen Bertrand Lorenz Reinoud

Breaking Barriers & Building Futures: Women Shaping Tomorrow’s Innovation Our CEO Sonja Jost took the stage at the German Haus of the #SXSW2025 in Austin to present the mission of DUDE CHEM and share her vision on how women leaders are driving innovation and shaping the future. Research highlights the challenges women face in tech leadership but shows that overcoming these barriers leads to greater success. In the US, women make up 47% of the workforce but hold only 28% of tech leadership roles, showing a significant gender gap. However, the Peterson Institute for International Economics found that companies with 30% female leaders see a 15% increase in profitability. Additionally, data from First Round Capital shows that female-founded companies perform 63% better than all-male teams. The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation also found that women-led teams generate 35% higher returns on investment. Therefore, at DUDE CHEM we believe that further increasing the representation of women in tech leadership is essential for driving higher profitability, innovation, and long-term organizational success. Huge thanks to Marie-Louise Sadakane for her fantastic moderation. And a big shoutout to all the panelists for the great exchange, Nyla Beth Gawel, Amanda Fornal, Anne Cocquyt. From Feedback to Action: The Next Steps for the Critical Medicines Act Last month, we contributed to the call for evidence for the Critical Medicines Act, and last week, the European Commission finally proposed new rules to ensure a stable supply of critical medicines. In recent years, EU Member States have faced significant challenges due to medicine shortages, which have been exacerbated by global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions. These shortages, often linked to manufacturing issues, supply chain vulnerabilities, and reliance on a limited number of suppliers, pose risks to patient care and put strain on healthcare systems. The proposed Critical Medicines Act introduces a series of measures designed to address these issues. Key components include the establishment of Strategic Projects aimed at increasing the EU’s manufacturing capacity for critical medicines, along with state aid guidelines to support such projects. Additionally, public procurement reforms should encourage the diversification of supply sources, while collaborative procurement across Member States will address regional disparities in access to critical medicines. This initiative complements existing EU efforts, such as the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe and recent pharmaceutical reforms, which focus on enhancing the EU’s ability to manage medicine shortages and improve patient access. The Critical Medicines Act represents a significant step in improving the resilience of the EU's pharmaceutical supply chains, strongly highlighting the need for greener innovation in this field. At DUDE CHEM, we remain committed to being part of the solution.
