CICAE's Executive Board meets in Warsaw with the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage and representatives of Polish cinema. The Sessions focused on the development trends in the cinema market, the impact of A.I. on our sector and the current media policy challenges, among other things. The Board was invited for dinner with Hanna Wróblewska, Polish Minister of Culture, at Cinema Iluzjon with our esteemed colleagues Maciej Dydo, director of the department of copyright and film at the ministry of culture and national heritage, Joanna Łapińska, artistic director of Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and Tomasz Kolankiewicz, director of National Film Archive-Audiovisual Institute, being present to meet the Board of CICAE. We also received insights by Milena Drincic, head of the department of international relations at the Polish Film Institute on the situation of Polish and European cinema. Of course, the focus was also on our association projects - especially the Arthouse Cinema Training in Berlin, the European Cinema Day, our events at the Cannes Festival, our joint workshops at the Annecy Festival and the Film Fest Hamburg The CICAE is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year – an important occasion to reaffirm our joint commitment to further strengthen the global arthouse movement! I have had the pleasure of collaborating in recent weeks with CICAE International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas on several projects, including the Arthouse Cinema Hub. The Hub is meant as an online space to learn, connect, and share ideas about programming, marketing, operations and audience development with the #arthouse community. I've drafted a blog post about the 2024 edition of the European Arthouse Cinema Day (EACD), which brought together more than 90k cinemagoers, attending screenings in 630 cinemas across 45 countries. Comscore, Inc. data highlighted how the event helped increase ticket sales for European films, with some venues doubling or even tripling admissions compared to the previous weekend. In total, over 370 different European films were screened, many co-productions, representing 71 nationalities. If you want to learn more about the #EACD, check the full article! Thank you Sebastian Naumann Christian Bräuer and Quentin Bucher for your support 🙏 https://lnkd.in/eCH2V9KQ

United for cinema in turbulent times - CICAE International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas Executive Board meets in Warsaw with the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage and representatives of Polish cinema. In a world of increasing polarisation and social isolation, the role of cinema as a cultural gathering place has never been more important. This was the powerful undercurrent of our CICAE Executive Board meeting in #Warsaw at Mazowiecki Instytut Kultury last week. Our discussions revealed a shared vision for strengthening the arthouse movement during these challenging times. We were honored to be joined by Hanna Wróblewska, Poland's Minister of Culture and National Heritage, at the historic Cinema Iluzjon. Together with Maciej Dydo (Director of the Department of Copyright and Film), Joanna Łapińska (Artistic director of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia) and Tomasz Kolankiewicz (Director of National Film Archive), we discussed the challenges and opportunities for our industry. Thank you also to Milena Drincic (Head of International Department at Polish Film Institut) for providing valuable insights on the current state of Polish cinema. Our working session addressed critical industry developments – market trends, the impact of AI and current media policy challenges, among other things. The preservation of geoblocking and securing a strong Creative Europe /MEDIA programme in the next funding cycle remain fundamental to maintaining a healthy audiovisual ecosystem. Of course, we also turned our focus inward to our association projects: from the #ArthouseCinemaTraining in Berlin to the #EuropeanCinemaDay as well as our presence at Festival de Cannes and upcoming joint workshops at Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy and FILMFEST HAMBURG. The impact of movie theatres is not just artistic, it is economic, cultural and democratic, too. Our cinemas remains essential both for the visibility of arthouse films and as a space for discourse. In this respect, cross-border initiatives such as the #EuropeanArthouseCinemaDay have proven to be essential for our industry. Beyond the world of cinema, my visit to Warsaw has reassured me in my belief that Germany, in the middle of Europe, must stand together with its European partners in these times and expand its partnerships with its immediate neighbours through initiatives such as the #WeimarerDreieck. The CICAE is also celebrating its 70th anniversary this year – an important occasion to reaffirm our joint commitment to further strengthen the global arthouse movement! Many thanks to Marlena Gabryszewska, Sebastian Naumann and Valentin Jassin for the organisation. Thank you also to my great board colleagues for their unwavering commitment (Detlef Roßmann Guillaume Bachy Laurent Callonnec Hannele Marjavaara Peggy Johnson Mira Staleva Giuliana Fantoni Michele Crocchiola)! 📸 Sylwia Olszewska

Thank you CICAE International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas for the invitation to give a presentation at your Alumni Meet-up during Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). I felt so honoured and welcome. And I really hope that Kids Kino Sweden Toolbox can inspire more cinemas to develop their work for their young audience. (Brotfabrik Kino is a really lovely cinema to visit if you are in Berlin!) Also had a lovely time at European Children Film Association AMG and The meeting of the European childrens film community and got to meet so many new and old collegues.
