At the @Global Disability Summit, Silvia Quan reminded us that “Persons with disabilities are the better experts on disability rights.” Silvia is the President of the Colectivo Vida Independiente in Guatemala and is working as a CBID co-trainer. In this short video, Silvia shares her reflections on the Global Disability Summit and why it remains a crucial platform for dialogue between governments, stakeholders, and the global disability community. Her message is clear: while important steps have been taken, there is still much work ahead to ensure real progress for persons with disabilities 🌐 Let’s continue advocating for inclusive policies and spaces where lived experience leads the way.

At the Civil Society Forum on Tuesday, CBM stood with partners to reaffirm that disability inclusion is not charity - it is justice and a fundamental right. At the summit itself, our side events have brought key voices together to drive action on disability inclusion during challenging times: ✅ Too often, persons with disabilities are left behind when crisis strikes, but humanitarian funding is declining. We were part of the organising team of the Disability Reference Group’s event on the critical role of financing in making humanitarian response truly inclusive. ✅Stronger parliamentary engagement is essential for advancing disability rights. Our side event with the International Disability Alliance discussed the establishment of an International Parliamentary Network for Disability Inclusive Development, which will facilitate collaboration among lawmakers worldwide. ✅ Political participation is a cornerstone for the realisation of the rights of persons with disabilities🗳️ We hosted an event with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Jordan, and the Namibian Federation of the Visually Impaired to discuss how inclusive political systems can drive change for persons with disabilities. ✅Finally, the Global Disability Inclusion Report gives an overview of how the changes shaping our world impact persons with disabilities and pathways to address these changes. CBM contributed to the report and participated in the launch event at the summit. CBM remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to build on hard-won progress and demand real change. Thousands, including many persons with disabilities, lost their homes and everything they owned following a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 that shook Myanmar. Destroyed houses, bridges and roads - in a region already scarred by civil war. And the bombing continues. Even an hour after the quake, the horror has not stopped. People are living in fear. Our partner organisation ZOA is on the ground and is acting now! Emergency shelters provide protection and security. Families with persons with disabilities are receiving cash so that they can quickly obtain the essentials they need for their daily lives. And as soon as the situation stabilises, ZOA rebuilds the destroyed houses. We rely on your support so that we can help quickly in disasters like this: Donate now! https://lnkd.in/es2322MN

Today, at the Global Disability Summit in Berlin, Germany, we are at the Civil Society Forum, a space for the disability community to connect, share experiences, and build stronger partnerships. Meaningful progress in disability inclusion happens when Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) lead the way—shaping policies, driving advocacy, and holding stakeholders accountable. Throughout #GDS2025, visit our booth to explore our Inclusive Participation Toolbox—a practical resource to strengthen OPD engagement in decision-making. This ensures that programmes are shaped by those with lived experience, leading to more effective, sustainable, and locally owned solutions. Commit to action by investing in OPD leadership to drive real, systemic change. See you at the Summit! #LeaveNoOneBehind #CommitToChange #Inclusion

CBM fully supports the call for 15% for the 15%. Persons with disabilities make up 15% of the global population, yet they remain sidelined in international development and humanitarian action. The Amman Berlin Declaration is a game-changer—it sets clear targets to make inclusion the norm, not the exception. Watch the video, share it, and urge leaders to endorse the Declaration. Inclusion cannot wait! #GDS2025 #DisabilityInclusion #AmmanBerlinDeclaration
📢 Why are OPDs calling for 15% for the 15%? Fifteen percent of the world’s population are persons with disabilities, yet they are still excluded from international development and humanitarian action. This must change. The Amman Berlin Declaration, one of the most significant outcomes of GDS 2025, sets clear targets to drive real action. It calls for all international development programs to be inclusive and establishes the 15 percent for the 15 percent target to ensure disability inclusion is a priority, not an afterthought. Why is this so important? Listen to OPD representatives break it down in this video as they share why this endorsement is urgent. Share the video and encourage leaders to endorse the Declaration. Inclusion cannot wait! 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gWDwZuQd International Disability Alliance | Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) | Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD)
