🔋 Battery Pass: Wrapping up and looking ahead 🔋 After three years of dedicated work to lay the foundation for battery passports in Europe and provide businesses with the knowledge, tools, and frameworks to prepare for the EU Battery Regulation, the Battery Pass project has officially concluded! Yesterday at HANNOVER MESSE, we symbolically handed over our final project results to State Secretary Michael Kellner from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. What we achieved together: ✅ Established content & technical standards, including the first-ever industry standard for battery passports, DIN DKE SPEC 99100 ✅ Developed a software demonstrator & open data model ✅ Delivered a Value Assessment, analysing the benefits and business value of battery passports ✅ Showcased our physical battery passport model (built with LEGO® bricks) at major industry events ✅ Engaged with thousands through webinars, conferences & expert discussions 👉 Access all our resources & reports at https://lnkd.in/eaMdnBSZ ➡️ What’s next? While Battery Pass has concluded, the real work is just beginning! With the February 2027 implementation requirement as per EU Battery Regulation signaling the EU-wide “go live” of battery passports, our consortium members will be advancing their own implementations. Meanwhile, the work of Battery Pass will be taken forward through new initiatives including: 🔹 Battery Pass Ready (BMWK-funded, led by acatech & Fraunhofer IPK): Creating a testing environment for companies, particularly SMEs, to ensure their systems meet data completeness, structure, and format requirements, and to facilitate interactions among economic operators, IT service providers, and the European Commission. 🔹 Chem-X Projekt (BMWK-funded) – Developing an interoperable data space for chemicals & materials. 🔹 Path.Era – A collaboration of industry leaders to create a trusted battery passport & digital product passport ecosystem. 🙏 A final thank you to our consortium lead Systemiq Ltd. Ltd and our consortium members acatech – Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften, AUDI AG, BASF, BMW Group, Circulor, FIWARE, Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology IPK, TWAICE, Umicore, VDE Renewables GmbH. Thank you as well as to BMWK and VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH for their funding and programme support, and to our Advisory Board for their invaluable guidance. 📢 Please note: This account will no longer be actively monitored, but our website and resources remain available (hosted by acatech). Thank you for being part of this journey to advance the implementation of the battery passport in Europe and beyond! 🔋 Battery Pass Closing event summary: our key takeaways The Battery Pass closing event on 25 February in Brussels marked three years of progress with the theme “From Concept to Blueprint: Battery Passports as Enablers of Transparent, Competitive, and Circular Value Chain.” The day was dedicated to industry leaders, policymakers, and experts exchanging insights on the advancements in battery passport implementation in Europe and beyond. Battery Pass has developed definitive guidance and standards for industry to implement the battery passport. As Amaryllis Verhoeven, Acting Director of DG GROW European Commission remarked during her keynote, this sets a blueprint for all digital product passports to follow. With 150 participants from the automotive and manufacturing industries and circular economy joining the event in Brussels and over 1.000 dialed in via live stream throughout the day, we enjoyed in-depth and sometimes surprising pitches and debates on all things #DPP. Here are our key takeaways: ✅ Battery passports promise real value-add for industry, consumers and regulators alike. ✅ Remaining ambiguity on standardisation and legislation should not stop affected companies from acting: The 18 February 2027 compliance date is not far away, check your company’s readiness now! ✅ Programs like Battery Pass provide the much-needed exchange between industry and European Commission to design the system optimally. Over 30 speakers shared their insights on key topics including: ✅ How policy regulation ensures the implementation of digital product passports for Europe’s Green Economy. ✅ How to transition markets and industries to sustainable battery systems ✅ How collaboration and standardisation drive progress for battery passports, and what the future holds ✅ The potential of Digital Product Passports (#DPPs) and strategies to prepare businesses for the EU Battery Passport Thank you to FIWARE for providing the Battery Pass Demonstrator, a LEGO-built 3D model accompanied by VR, which served as the centrepiece illustrating the battery passport’s data flow across the value chain.
