#ALDIresponsible | Rethinking Packaging for Dentitex
At ALDI Nord, we constantly strive to act responsibly as a discount retailer and are committed to creating solutions that benefit our customers and the environment alike. We had the chance to sit down with Eva Isabella Tobor, Category Director for Health, Baby & Beauty from the International Procurement FMCG department at ALDI Nord, to discuss the exciting updates to our oral care private label brand Dentitex Basic toothbrushes packaging.

"Our original packaging for the basic toothbrush was previously combined of plastic and paper, which made it difficult to recycle and less user-friendly. Now, we’ve introduced a fully paper-based 'flow pack' design that’s easier to open and clearly differentiates from our premium toothbrush range. The new packaging will be available in stores starting in April this year."

“The idea for this packaging type originally came to us from the confectionary sector. We asked ourselves - why not transfer this kind of packaging format to further product groups? The new packaging is fully recyclable, contributes to resource conservation, and complies with EU packaging regulations (PPWR). The new packaging format reduces material usage by 70%, saving a total of 50 tons of material annually. Avoiding plastic in packaging eliminates the need for recycled plastic, reducing further costs."

"Packaging plays a critical role in ensuring product quality and transport safety. However, evolving EU packaging regulations (PPWR) and the drive towards a circular economy necessitate rethinking and optimizing our private label packaging. The new regulations set ambitious targets, which we’re committed to meeting."

"Each product needs to be evaluated individually, and some changes require significant lead time. The transition of the Dentitex packaging took over two years from concept to market. The manufacturing process required combining dental expertise with innovative technology, ensuring that our customers get a high-quality experience at affordable prices. Success depends on close collaboration across teams and with our suppliers. To reflect this dedication to sustainability and strategic growth, our entire oral care range across markets will now carry the ‘Dentitex’ brand name.”
We continue working on getting our packaging ready for EU regulations while also making a valuable contribution to the circular economy. 🙌
