"Diving Into Urwerk’s UR-200s – A Look at the Evolution of Four Timepieces” is now live Per Esper. Today, we’re examining URWERK s.a.’s origins and evolution under a microscope. There are four timepieces in the UR-200s collection – the UR-202, UR-210, UR-220, and UR-230 “Eagle.” This collection spans across the last seventeen years, beginning with the UR-202 in 2008 while the UR-230 “Eagle” is the latest arrival in 2023. We will not dive into every existing model from each of these four timepieces (there are many). For the purpose of today’s article, we’re looking at the more high-level design and mechanics of the UR-200s and how things have progressed over time. The URWERK s.a. UR-120 “Lost in Black Space” ⚫️🛸 Bringing an entirely new satellite display of time, each satellite display of time splits open, revealing two rectangular studs. They take on a V shape, thus recreating the Vulcan salute that ultimately gave the original UR-120 “Spock” its namesake. Once separated, both studs spin on their own axis and shut, all in order to display the new hour unit. The only way to navigate the expensive testing and refining process for the satellite display was to manufacture the spring in-house as well as the brand’s new, self-winding caliber UR-20.01. With the UR-120, we see the brand move in an overall smoother, thinner, and more elegant direction. The upper part of the case is totally smooth, without a single screw or notch, offering perfectly fluid lines. With its black DLC treatment, this UR-120 showcases the clean aesthetic of all-black timepieces and exudes elegance. The URWERK s.a. UR-150 Scorpion 🦂 Both the Dark and Titan models are now available at EsperLuxe. An extra-exciting occasion, the UR-150 Scorpion presents a new movement, even more expansive wandering-minute satellite mechanism, and a new case design. Doubling from the brand’s usual 120 degree to a 240 degree arc, like a scorpion, the wandering minute and jumping hour mechanism move to an extreme arch and then snap lightning fast, in this case, back to XX:00. The retrograde system was an impressive engineering feat, requiring a speed regulator on the UR-150’s flywheel. All of this is powered by caliber UR-50.01, we observe further improvement to the brand’s automatic winding system. Powered by dual turbines, both regulate the solid rotor’s speed as well as a more robust movement against shock. The UR-150 Scorpion takes a step forward for Urwerk’s case design, this timepiece features an arched profile with the case and sapphire crystal maintaining the same line originating from the curve of the bracelet. The UR-150 Scorpion hugs the wrist ergonomically.
