After two years of collaboration across more than 80 organisations, the CATS CONOPS for Future Skies has officially launched! 🌍 Developed by the CATS Global Council, this Concept of Operations lays out a strategic and operational pathway through to #2045. It serves as a global roadmap to help aviation move beyond today’s fragmented systems and towards a future of #seamless, #scalable, and #sustainable airspace integration. The focus is on meaningful transformation - integrating both traditional and emerging airspace users, leveraging #digitalisation and #automation, and advancing the global dialogue on the future of air traffic management. 🔗 Learn more and read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/eGa9bfBP 🛫 Why it matters: The aviation system is under pressure. Traffic is growing. New players such as electric air taxis (eVTOLs), drones, and high-altitude operations (HAO), including suborbital flights are entering the scene. Space operations are also becoming more frequent. Environmental expectations are rising. We can’t solve tomorrow’s challenges with yesterday’s tools. The CATS CONOPS lays out a practical, collaborative and future-ready framework to guide that shift - phase by phase: 1) Optimised digital operations 2) Advanced automation & real-time performance 3) A seamless, fully integrated sky As Simon Hocquard, Chair of the CATS Global Council, put it: “This isn’t about incremental change. It’s about rethinking how we manage airspace in the decades ahead — for everyone.” We’re grateful to all the contributors, from ANSPs, airports and airlines to startups and OEMs, who shaped this vision. 🌍 Celebrating collaboration and advancing safety in aviation   We are proud to share that Skyguide, together with Austro Control and NAV CANADA, has received the CANSO Global Safety Achievement Award! This award highlights our joint efforts in advancing safety culture measurement and benchmarking across three countries.   Together, we developed a data-driven approach to measure and benchmark safety culture – through online surveys, facilitated workshops, and a shared dashboard. ℹ Skyguide's annual results 2024: Investments in technical infrastructure lead to negative result – despite record traffic In 2024, Skyguide safely guided a record number of 1'328'974 flights under instrument flight rules through its airspace. This represents an increase of 10.2 % compared to the previous year. Despite the significant increase in civil traffic, Skyguide achieved a net financial result of -18.9 million CHF in 2024. Busy skies over Sion Airport ✈ Over the recent weekend, Skyguide's air traffic controllers at Sion Airport managed an exceptionally high volume of air traffic. ℹ Skyguide CEO Alex Bristol to step down in October 2025, Peter Merz named successor Alex Bristol will step down as CEO on 31 October 2025, after eight years of forward-thinking leadership marked by innovation and sustainability – including achieving the world's first GreenATM accreditation. He will be succeeded by Major General Peter Merz, current Commander of the Swiss Air Force, who assumes the role on 1 November 2025. Peter brings extensive aviation and leadership experience, having played a key role in modernising air defence and advancing Swiss aviation technology.
