Standing 16.5m tall, the sculpture, made from PEFC-certified spruce, represents the first bars of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” and is crafted using circular economy principles - designed to be disassembled and repurposed after the Expo. With the recent release of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/196, the accreditation requirement for RED II is postponed until 1 January 2027. This means that RED II audits can take place under the current PEFC chain of custody accreditation requirements. Certification bodies that are notified for PEFC chain of custody can get their auditors qualified through the online PEFC RED II General Training, and then sign a PEFC RED II notification contract with PEFC International to provide PEFC RED II certification audits.
