🚨 New Appointment at IFRA We’re delighted to welcome Johannes Weiß as Public Affairs and Sustainability Manager Europe at the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). Based in our Brussels operations office, Johannes will lead advocacy and engagement on key European policy dossiers. His experience in EU public affairs and regulatory issues will help strengthen IFRA’s presence and impact across European institutions. A German national, Johannes brings valuable expertise from his previous roles at EUK Consulting and the European Policy Centre, with a strong background in European policy and stakeholder engagement. He will report to Aurélie Perrichet, Regional Director for Europe, and to the IFRA President Alexander Mohr. In this new role, Johannes will focus on public affairs and sustainability, contributing to IFRA’s work to promote the safe use of fragrance and support our industry in navigating an evolving policy landscape. Our comprehensive review on Furocoumarins and Phototoxicity is now published! 🌿✨ In Phototoxicity and skin damage: A review of adverse effects of some furocoumarins found in natural extracts, we dive into the fascinating world of furocoumarins—naturally occurring compounds found in plant extracts, including citrus oils, that are commonly used in fragrances and cosmetics. While some can react with sunlight, proper risk management ensures their safe use. 🔬 Key insights from our review: ✅ Both concentration and UVA exposure are critical factors in potential skin effects. ✅ Thresholds can be identified to effectively manage risks and ensure safe formulation. This research is the result of collaboration within the IFRA Furocoumarin Stakeholder Group, with key contributions from Matthias Vey & Amaia Irizar. 🌹 Strengthening responsible sourcing in Bulgarian rose 🌹  This week, IFRA and the UEBT (the Union for Ethical Bio Trade) are convening key industry players in Pavel Banya, Bulgaria, for a crucial workshop on responsible sourcing of Bulgaria rose. Bulgaria’s rich tradition of rose cultivation is at the heart of the regional fragrance economy, and ensuring ethical and sustainable sourcing is essential for both the sector and local communities. Through the IFRA-UEBT Responsible Sourcing Initiative (RSI), we are working collaboratively with farmers, distillers, and industry stakeholders to address social and environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.  At the opening of the workshop, IFRA President Alexander Mohr, PhD highlighted the industry's commitment to work together. Sustainability is at the core of IFRA’s 2024-2029 strategy. By working together, we aim to develop a risk assessment framework that helps safeguard supply chains and supports local producers. A big thank you to UEBT, local associations, and all participants for driving progress on responsible sourcing.
