🌍 “It’s not your usual suppliers or customers—it’s a horizontal cooperation.” 🤝 In this short clip, Nokyoung Choi from BASF & BASF Performance Materials shares why the Global Impact Coalition’s Automotive Plastics Circularity project stands out: it brings together chemical companies and plastics producers across the value chain—many of whom wouldn't typically work together. Of course, collaboration across competitors isn't always easy. Different products, perspectives, and priorities can make alignment challenging. That’s where GIC comes in—as a neutral enabler helping to connect the dots and keep us moving forward, together. 🎥 Watch Nok-Young’s take on what makes this coalition special. What do you think are the key enablers to make collaboration work? #CircularEconomy #PlasticsCircularity #Collaboration #ChemicalIndustry

What are the key emissions reduction priorities of the chemical manufacturing companies? 🧪 In our recent Q&A with Renewable Watch Magazine and India Infrastructure Publishing Private Limited, Global Impact Coalition CEO Charlie Tan and Communications Lead Amanda Martin shared insights into the Global Impact Coalition’s work to accelerate the chemical industry’s transition to net zero. In the interview, we touched on: 🔹 Why the chemical industry plays a critical role in the global energy transition 🔹 How GIC is enabling collaboration across value chains and regions 🔹 The technologies and levers that can help the sector decarbonize faster 🔹 What’s needed from policymakers, investors, and customers to move from ambition to action Did you know? 🤔 The chemical industry’s GHG emissions mainly come from energy consumption and chemical production processes. Around 60 per cent of the emissions result from burning fossil fuels to generate steam, heat and pressure required for chemical processes, while the remaining 40 per cent come from like carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides released during chemical reactions. To address these emission sources, chemical manufacturing companies are prioritising several key emissions reduction strategies focused on alternative energy sources and sustainable feedstocks, including: - Adoption of renewable energy sources - Electrification of chemical processes - Utilisation of green hydrogen - Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) - Sustainable feedstocks While operational efficiencies have achieved minor reductions in emissions, the industry now requires significant changes and innovative approaches to meet emissions reduction goals. Emerging technologies and collaborative efforts are essential to drive the substantial transformations necessary for a sustainable future. Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/eyTyqBuV

It’s great to see some of our founding members getting recognition for the innovative achievements! 🙌 Congratulations to SABIC and BASF for the Edison Awards gold 🥇on the e-furnace — an idea incubated within the platform of the Global Impact Coalition predecessor under the World Economic Forum. This revolutionary innovation can reduce over 90% of CO2 emissions compared to conventional steam cracking thanks to using renewable energy. ⚡️♻️ What will be the next revolutionary innovation in the chemical industry?
Innovation and collaboration remain at the heart of our growth strategy. For the first time, we won six awards at the Edison Awards across three key categories, reaffirming our commitment to a better future. #SABIC

💡What can nature teach us about leadership and collaboration? 🌱 At our recent Global Impact Coalition (GIC) Executive Committee offsite, leaders from our member companies stepped away from their usual environments to explore, reflect, and connect—with ourselves, with each other, and with nature. In nature we uncovered insights that resonate with our work at GIC: 🌿 Ecosystems thrive on diversity. Just as forests depend on a mix of species to flourish, GIC’s strength lies in our ability to bring together a diverse range of companies—across industries and value chains—to collaborate in new ways and drive systemic change. 🌲 Nature creates value. Forests provide economic and ecological benefits—just as our projects are designed to drive both environmental progress and business opportunity. ❄️ Strength in unity. Snowflakes alone may melt, but when packed together, they become strong enough to form shelter. Likewise, when we join forces, we amplify our impact. 🍄 Nature wastes nothing. Mycelium networks transform fallen leaves into nutrients, completing nature’s perfect circularity. Inspired by this, we’re reimagining waste—turning used materials into valuable feedstock for a more circular economy. What lessons has nature taught you about leadership and collaboration? We’d love to hear your insights! 👇 And big thank you to our executive committee and teams for your continued collaboration!
