Innovative thinking plays a major role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges. From climate change to social inequality, the solutions we need are often within reach, but they require creativity, bold ideas, and a willingness to break from traditional approaches. One of the most powerful ways to tackle global issues is by empowering the next generation. By providing youth with the tools, resources, and mentorship they need to think critically, generate ideas, and become change agents, we are enabling them to be active problem-solvers in their communities and beyond. On this International Day of Creativity and Innovation, we are proud to announce our partnership with Wezesha Impact, an inspiring Ugandan NGO that is at the forefront of this mission. Through its “Wezesha Impact Skills & Enterprise (W.I.S.E)” programme, the organisation offers underserved youth opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial skills, build leadership qualities, and turn their innovative ideas into actionable solutions that can transform their communities. Youth are the changemakers who will drive the next wave of solutions to global challenges. By supporting NGOs like Wezesha Impact, we can ensure that young people are not only prepared for the future but are also equipped to shape it. #AudemarsPiguetFoundations #InternationalDayOfCreativityAndInnovation #YouthEmpowerment #InnovationForChange #Entrepreneurship #Uganda

In her article “Traditions shaken by global warming”, Elizabeth Allison, Professor of Ecology and Religion at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, USA, highlights the impact of climate change on indigenous cultures, particularly in high-altitude regions. The territories of the world’s 370 million indigenous peoples cover 24% of land worldwide, in particular forest ecosystems, and contain 80% of the world’s biodiversity (Sobrevila, 2008; IPS, 2017). The connection local communities have with natural landscapes is integral to their identity and traditions, fostering a deep care for nature. Indigenous practices often embody sustainable interactions with the environment, offering valuable insights into ecological stewardship. As climate change threatens these traditions, it becomes crucial to document, honour, valorise, and preserve this knowledge, ensuring its transmission to future generations. Such preservation not only supports biodiversity but also promotes resilience in the face of climate change. By valuing and integrating indigenous perspectives, we can foster more effective and culturally respectful approaches to environmental preservation, ensuring that both the planet and its diverse cultures endure for generations to come. As we look towards the future, it is crucial to focus on integrating young people, especially those at risk of social inequality, into the professional world. According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO), in 2024, approximately 131,000 individuals aged between 15 and 29 in Switzerland were classified as NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), representing 9.1% of this age group. This is an increase compared to 2023, when 111,000 young people (7.7 %) were in the same situation. By providing the right training and support, we can help these young individuals develop the skills they need to succeed and integrate into both the workforce and society at large. Through its “Young Talents” programme, Geneva-based NGO Yojoa offers young people tailored support for developing their talents and career plans, helping them reach their full potential on the job market. The organisation, which works closely with local businesses, also creates opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, and first jobs, while ensuring these professional experiences are a success. NGOs play an essential role in serving the public good; they are independent of state control, operate on a non-profit basis, and are deeply connected to the communities they represent. By complementing public or economic actions, NGOs are crucial to preserving natural ecosystems and ensuring a decent quality of life for all. However, both internal and external challenges often hinder their ability to function optimally and maximise their impact. As part of their intervention model, the Audemars Piguet Foundations are committed to helping NGOs overcome these challenges and valorise best practices. Through our Organisational Development pillar, we notably partner with IECD - Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement, an organisation dedicated to strengthening and providing long-term support to local non-profit structures in developing countries, as well as in France. IECD’s activities focus on three main areas: training and professional integration of young people and adults, supporting local entrepreneurship, and improving access to quality education. Today, in celebration of International Day of Forests, the Audemars Piguet Foundations had the pleasure of welcoming Charlotte MEYRUEIS, Director of Coeur de Forêt, to Le Brassus, Switzerland. Charlotte shared insights with Audemars Piguet’s employees about the impactful work her organisation is carrying out in Indonesia, in collaboration with the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Trees. Launched in 2014, the NGO’s “Forest restoration and preservation on the island of Flores, Indonesia” initiative focuses on preserving existing forest areas while supporting the development of income-generating activities for local farmers. Each year, the project includes programmes aimed at raising awareness among the local population, providing support to local producers, and creating fair trade channels (such as vanilla, essential oils, etc.). Additionally, the initiative runs planting campaigns in villages to reforest degraded hills, protect water sources, and promote the diversity of agro-ecological crops. Between 2016 and 2022, over 190 hectares of forest, affected by recurring fires, were replanted using direct seeding with more than 20 species, along with 340,000 macro-cuttings of 𝐺𝑙𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑑𝑖𝑎 𝑠𝑒𝑝𝑖𝑢𝑚. In February, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the PPI - Programme de Petites Initiatives (Small-Scale Initiatives Programme) of the Comité français de l'UICN (IUCN French Committee) and the conclusion of its sixth edition, over 80 partners, including the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Trees and its past and present grantees IGH - Itombwe Génération pour l’Humanité (DRC), Mbou-Mon-Tour (DRC), Associação Projecto Vitó (Cape Verde) and CREDI-ONG BENIN (Benin), gathered in Toubacouta, at the heart of the Biosphere Reserve of the Saloum Delta, Senegal, for the second edition of the PPI Exchange Forum. Since its inception, the PPI has supported 305 projects across 28 African countries, established over 500,000 hectares of community-protected areas, improved the conservation of 25 endangered species, and launched 146 new initiatives. We are proud to act as a catalyst for these exceptional projects by providing ongoing support to organisations even after they complete the programme. On World Wildlife Day, we are reminded of the vital importance of our connection to nature and the need for harmonious cohabitation with the planet. Our relationship with the environment is not just about conservation; it’s about ensuring the survival of the unique species we share this world with. One such species is the greater bamboo lemur, a critically endangered primate endemic to Madagascar. With fewer than 500 individuals remaining, this remarkable lemur is at risk of disappearing forever. The French Association for the Conservation of the Greater Bamboo Lemur, Helpsimus, is dedicated to preserving the greater bamboo lemur and its natural habitat. In 2008, the NGO launched the “Bamboo Lemur” conservation programme, which has been implemented in the south-east of Madagascar, on the outskirts of Ranomafana National Park, where communities live in extreme poverty and rely mainly on subsistence farming. Through conservation efforts, sustainable land management, and community engagement, the aim of the programme is to ensure that local populations and wildlife can live together in harmony, thus reducing the pressure on forest ecosystems. On the global scale, social inequalities represent a major challenge, creating deep disparities between individuals based on their origin, economic status, gender, or access to education. In many regions around the world, millions of people face structural barriers that limit their opportunities and perpetuate cycles of vulnerability. These inequalities have dramatic consequences, not only on the well-being of individuals but also on the stability and cohesion of societies. Promoting social equity is essential to building a sustainable world where every individual can reach their full potential as part of resilient and autonomous communities. Together with its partners, the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Common Good is committed to supporting social equity by addressing key issues such as precariousness and social isolation. #AudemarsPiguetFoundations #WorldDayOfSocialJustice #Inequality #SocialEquity #FullPotential 📷 Food from the Heart
