Take a watch/listen to our latest Decarb Lunch recording 'A Net Zero Retrofit: Lessons from the Cutting Edge' Our March Decarb Lunch was co-hosted with the Homebuilders Association Vancouver (HAVAN) where we featured North Vancouver's first net zero energy retrofit. In this recording, you'll learn how the homeowner and Twin Lions Contracting Ltd navigated design and permitting challenges, optimized airtightness, and integrated efficient heating, ventilation, and solar power into the design and reconstruction of the home. This session offers valuable technical insights, policy considerations, and key lessons to accelerate net zero retrofits.  Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g8AR5eUm

Join us for our upcoming Decarb Lunch 'Optimizing Heat Pumps in Commercial Buildings' With their ability to provide highly efficient electric heating and cooling, heat pumps are our most promising and important building decarbonization technology. Installing a heat pump in a commercial building can be complex and requires careful engineering and attention to detail. As the first generation of air source heat pumps in BC are coming to the end of their service life, projects to replace them offer valuable opportunities to take advantage of improved technology and optimize these systems. This ZEBx webinar will share real world experiences and lessons learned from retrofitting the HVAC system of the Atrium, an iconic office and retail building in downtown Victoria. The session will cover all aspects of the Atrium project, from planning and procurement to design, construction, and commissioning. This discussion will provide valuable insights into how to make heat pumps work for those who own, design, work on, and live/work/play in these buildings. Thanks to the financial support of the City of Vancouver, BC Hydro and Natural Resources Canada, this webinar is free of charge.   Speakers: Brad White, President, SES Consulting Jason Finster, Energy Manager, Jawl Properties Register now 👉 : https://lnkd.in/gdaSmer6

Victoria, we're coming your way! Come meet the ZEIC Building Decarb team and hear from Victoria-based Jawl Properties about how they’ve struck the right balance between a strong business case and real decarbonization results. Can’t make it? Feel free to pass this along to your Vancouver Island contacts who might be interested! Register here: https://lnkd.in/g3wKPc_d

The ZEIC Building Decarb team is going on tour. First stop: Victoria! Developing a business case for decarbonizing commercial buildings takes a deep understanding of the interplay between emissions reduction measures (like electrification) and energy conservation measures. Too much of one and not enough of the other can erode the business case or the decarbonization potential. Jawl Properties, a leading developer, owner and manager of premium commercial real estate in Victoria, has mastered the balancing act. Since 2007, they’ve applied a climate-friendly business sense to every building in their portfolio and are well on their way to achieving a 60% reduction in their emissions (per square foot) by 2030. Join Karen Jawl, Director of Jawl Properties, and ZEBx, B2E - Building to Electrification Coalition and CLF British Columbia | Carbon Leadership Forum Program Managers in Victoria for a discussion on the financial and practical realities of decarbonizing commercial buildings. They will also discuss topics such as financial incentives, embodied carbon, and energy retrofits, along with insights on balancing energy conservation and emissions reduction measures to make sustainability a strong business case. Join our upcoming Decarb Lunch: Vancouver's GHG Reporting Bylaw – Reflections & Projections Co-host BOMA BC will kick off this webinar by highlighting industry engagement, challenges, and opportunities before handing things over to the City of Vancouver’s Gurmeet Singh and Micah Lang. They’ll recap the city’s GHG bylaw, outline its phased requirements, and share key takeaways from this past year’s first reporting cycle. They’ll also outline how building managers can prepare for 2025. In 2024, more than 200 of Vancouver’s largest commercial properties spanning more than 47 million square feet submitted their energy and carbon data to the City. With the requirements now expanding as scheduled to include nearly 900 commercial, residential, and hotel buildings, the City is working to ensure building owners and operators are aware of both the regulation and the available compliance support tools and resources. Thanks to the generous support of BC Hydro, the City of Vancouver, and NRCan, this event is free of charge. Register now 👉 https://lnkd.in/dziVwUgi
