We're thrilled to announce that our CEO Sean Merat will chat with the wizard himself, chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov, at Insurtech Insights in June in New York City about the future of AI in insurance. But why insurance and chess? Claims-processing and chess have a lot in common. Adjusters have to intuit multiple moves ahead and mentally unravel complex details to make decisions. And ever since Kasparov's famous matches against IBM's Deep Blue in 1996–1997, chess players have long learned that embracing AI helps them refine their own intuition and improve their critical-thinking skills. Likewise, for insurance, we believe that AI empowers claims teams to leverage their human ingenuity—resulting in human-centric decisions and better outcomes for insurers & claimants alike. Come hear Garry share his unique insights into the intersection of AI and human capacity that's highly applicable for insurance and learn from one of the greatest strategic minds in history. And be sure to book your private demo at the event with us (link below)! Booth timeslots at Insurtech Insights are highly sought-after and scheduled in advance; that's why we're getting ahead of the curve and making it easy for you to manage your time. What you'll get: 🤝 A private, no-commitment meeting to learn how AI is transforming insurance. 🖥️ A deep-dive into our toolkit's capabilities and a live walkthrough of our ecosystem. 💡 A path to resolve your specific challenges for futureproofing your insurance company. 📈 A personalized ROI analysis. 🧢 And, swag—obviously! Reserve your private demo here: <https://lnkd.in/gv9fjr3C>. See you in the Big Apple!

Insurance is all about trust... Customers place faith in providers to help protect them. Agents & brokers place faith in customers to believe them. And claims teams? They need faith in the tools they use to do their job and best support policyholders. Without faithful trust, frontline staff inadvertently risk making blind claims decisions. The stakes are too high for that. So how can claims teams trust that the AI they use to help them make decisions provides insights that are precise and relevant, let alone comprehensive? This is where explainable AI comes in—a set of AI processes whereby AI tools explain themselves. Kind of like "show your work" in high-school math class (remember that?). This is how claims teams can trust their AI tools and develop the confidence they need to optimize claims outcomes, in turn building trust with customers. It's a win-win. Explainability's a core feature of accountable AI—AI that's explainable, governable, and trained on relevant claims data—fueling Claims Intelligence and empowering carriers to create a human-centric future for insurance. We discuss all of this in our latest blog post about explainable AI. To learn more about what explainable AI for insurance is, why it's important, and how Owl.co uses explainable AI to help claims teams trust & validate AI-generated claims insights, check out the link below in the comments!

In tech, women represent less than 30% of the workforce and hold fewer than 20% of the leadership positions. The industry has seen admirable progress in recent years but we know there remains room for growth. With women now accounting for almost half of the overall workforce in the U.S., there's no good reason for the tech industry's disproportionate numbers. It's time to speed things up. The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is “Accelerate Action” accelerating action for recognition, representation, and equality. At Owl.co, we believe progress happens when companies make it a priority. While we acknowledge there’s still work to do, we’re proud of what we’ve built and remain committed to pushing forward. How Owl.co stacks up: 🟣 43% of Owl.co's workforce is women (~26–30% is the average in the tech industry as a whole) 🔵 40% of our leadership team are women (23% is the average in insurtech specifically) ⚫️ 100% of 2024 leadership promotions went to women, a reflection of Owl.co ’s commitment to a merit-based, bias-free culture Why does this matter? We’re not just keeping up with industry benchmarks. We’re setting new ones. These numbers represent a team of women who are empowered, valued, and supported at every stage of their Owl journey. While the broader tech & insurtech industries still have work to do, we’re proving that real change happens when you prioritize it with intention. To every woman at Owl, thank you for your contributions, leadership, and impact. Together, we’re accelerating change and leading by example. #AccelerateAction #IWD25

Generative AI is all the buzz in insurtech. Ask a question about a claim, get a paragraph explaining an answer—sounds great! But how great? Gen-AI eliminates tedious manual work for claims teams to focus more on high-value tasks. But text-based responses aren't always what we would call valuable. They aren’t sufficient for queries about complex information. And reading long paragraphs when AI has to explain something in detail isn’t optimal. That’s why we’ve developed non-textual gen-AI! Non-textual generative AI instantly produces charts, diagrams, graphs, images, or timelines to visualize answers to queries about claims. Say you’re investigating a short-term disability claim and need to review the status of the claimant’s recent medical appointments. Non-textual gen-AI creates a visual chart of the claimant’s appointment details, with custom data about the provider, the purpose of the visit, and links to relevant documentation. After all, they say a picture’s worth a thousand words! Learn more via our article; link below in the comments.

Insurance carriers face increasing challenges in managing disability claims. Why? To start, disability claims are complex. But claims teams are also overwhelmed. Carriers begin to see diminishing returns on operations once caseloads per adjuster reach, on average, 111—but data shows that more than half of all adjusters today are above that threshold. That means less capacity to understand medical files, find missing information in claims documents, make sense of vocational assessments, and more. So what's the changing landscape here? Before: 😑 Slow turnaround times on claim decisions 🤦 Manual data entries resulting in errors 💲 Overpaying claims due to overlooked fraud The new way with Owl.co: 📹 Document-understanding technology that processes files to save time and optimize resources 🕵 Deterministic AI that analyzes claims irrespective of historical data to foster fair, ethical decisions 🪄 Generative AI that summarizes large swaths of complex data to empower claims teams with intelligence so they can do their best work We're working with insurers to help them transition to the new way to make insurance more human. So far, the results are pretty exciting! Check out our new case study to learn how we assisted one disability insurer in reducing claims-processing time by over 75% while increasing claims-processing output by over 30%.
