  • Supporting Students. Nourishing Futures.   Yesterday, John Nicola, CEO & CIO at Nicola Wealth, was proud to stand alongside David Long and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank to announce a meaningful step forward in the fight against food insecurity in our city. Through a joint donation of $170,000 from the GVFB and the Nicola Family Foundation, John and his family are helping ensure the Vancouver School Board’s Food4Schools program can continue delivering healthy meals to students in need.   With the City of Vancouver’s funding commitment set to end in 2025, this initiative provides crucial support for over 2,000 children and families who rely on this program for daily nourishment.   As John Nicola shared at yesterday morning’s press conference: “We need to set children up for success—and that starts with access to nutritious food. No child should have to go hungry at school.”   At Nicola Wealth, we believe in building stronger, healthier communities, empowering everyone to meet their full potential. That includes stepping up when it matters most.   #NicolaWealthGivesBack #GVFB #Food4Schools #CommunityImpact #Philanthropy #FoodSecurity

  • “I used to think that if there was reincarnation, I wanted to come back as the president or the pope or as a .400 baseball hitter. But now I would like to come back as the bond market. You can intimidate everybody,” said James Carville, campaign strategist for Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign. In this new article by John Nicola, he examines the market fallout from U.S. tariff policy, the sharp rise in bond yields, and what ultimately triggered a policy pause by the Trump administration. Earlier this week, I had the honour of speaking at the private launch of Vitality: Iconic Images, Hidden Stories at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre - an experience that was both professionally meaningful and deeply personal. Vitality showcases the powerful photography of Fred Herzog, capturing vibrant moments from Vancouver’s Chinatown, Strathcona, and Hastings St. in the 1950s to 1970s. These images tell stories of resilience, entrepreneurship, and quiet strength—values that built the foundation of this community. As Tassan and I walked through the exhibit, we saw not just history, but legacy. Some of my own family members are featured. To see their stories preserved in this way was incredibly moving. Vancouver's Chinatown is a very special place—it's where many families like mine built a life. It’s also a living example of how community, perseverance, and identity shape our cities—and our futures. At Nicola Wealth, we believe in building for the long term. We believe in giving back. And we believe in helping preserve the stories and values that define who we are. That’s why we’re so proud to support the Vitality exhibit and the work of the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation. Thank you to Carol Lee and the entire team behind this beautiful initiative. This is more than an exhibit—it’s a tribute to those who came before us and a reminder of the vibrant communities we are still building today. #vancouverchinatown #chinatownfoundation #legacyplanning
