This week, I am back in the Legislature after an amazing 2 weeks learning about BC’s strong mining sector. Here’s what I was up to:   British Columbia has some of the best mining education programs in the world. At The University of British Columbia I was able to explore the Mining Engineering program, which delivers exceptional mineral sector and critical mineral research to industry around the world. It was a pleasure to visit the laboratories of various professors, as well as the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering, where our next generation of mining engineers learn to succeed in the field.   At the British Columbia Institute of Technology I had the opportunity to sit down directly with students from their mining programs, discussing what brought them to the program and industry, and about their academic journey so far. BCIT offers an exceptional hands-on approach that prepares their students to work the industry right away. It is amazing to see mining education programs in BC grow and succeed!   I also was pleased to visit pH7 Technologies, a Vancouver based company that extracts critical minerals from end-of-life and recycled metal products. Innovations like this, bred right here in BC, offer sustainable ways to increase critical mineral supply.   At MineSense Technologies Ltd. I got to see first-hand how BC-based innovation is impacting the mining industry worldwide. Their sensor technology has the ability to drastically increase mine-production, as it automatically detects the quality of each truck load.   Lastly, I visited Ideon Technologies and Digital Supercluster. Ideon has created a new technology which can create x-ray-like visuals deep beneath the earth’s surface, allowing for the mining and geological industries to have an in-depth image of the rock below them.   Our province is rich in innovation and education, and it was amazing to see some of this work firsthand. Looking forward to taking these experiences with me as we head back to the legislature!
