Curious about the Invention to Innovation (i2I) Commercialization Postdoc Program? 🔭 🧬 👩🔬 👨💻 🧪 The Invention to Innovation (i2I) Commercialization Postdoc Program is a premier opportunity for postdoctoral fellows (PDFs) to develop the entrepreneurial mindset and commercialization skills necessary to successfully translate scientific discoveries into market-ready innovations. Specifically designed for researchers in biomedical, health, clean energy, sustainability, quantum technologies, advanced materials, manufacturing, and other deep-tech sectors, this program helps bridge the gap between academia and industry. The i2I program addresses the high uncertainties and long timelines typically associated with science commercialization, providing participants with the tools and frameworks needed to navigate these challenges effectively. By the end of the program, you’ll have the knowledge and capabilities to make informed decisions about intellectual property, market applications, R&D priorities, and commercialization strategies. What You Will Learn: 🔵 Innovation Frameworks: Structured approaches to evaluating market applications, managing intellectual property, and defining value propositions. 🔵 Business Acumen: Develop practical skills in opportunity assessment, business model development, financial projections, and leadership. 🔵 Real-World Experience: Engage with marketing, IP, and investment practitioners and connect with sector-specific mentors, incubators, and accelerators across Canada. Beginning in September 2025, the i2I cohort model offers a unique chance to build a strong network within the innovation ecosystem, positioning you for success as you enter regional and national commercialization landscapes. Program Outcomes: ⚪ IP Strategy: Develop an early-stage intellectual property strategy aligned with market needs. ⚪ Business Models: Learn to craft early-stage business models and competitive strategies. ⚪Leadership Skills: Gain leadership and communication skills to effectively lead innovation efforts. ⚪ Funding Strategy: Identify sources of early-stage funding and create actionable development plans. Applicants must be eligible to hold a postdoctoral appointment at a Canadian academic institution by September 2025. Program fees and stipends are covered by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Mitacs. Successful applicants will receive a stipend of $60,000 per year, with the possibility for renewal. Have I mentioned how much I love Atlantic Canada and the founder community out east. A great session with a great group of people. This is my third visit to Frederiction and I was able to connect with some old friends which made the trip even more special. I launched a new t-shirt in Fredericton that I will post about tomorrow.
