IMII Member Workforce Development Initiative: Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT)'s Mining Industry Pre-Employment Program (MIP). The MIP was designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the mining industry. This program is tailored with the needs of the industry in mind, educating students extensively on: ✔️ The application of safe work practices ✔️ Underground mining ✔️ Mineral processing operations ✔️ Industry certifications The course includes an on-site practicum, allowing them to test their knowledge in a real-life environment. That's why we were excited to support Dr. Jocelyn Peltier-Huntley as she completed her study, Transforming Experiences into Solutions: A Multiphase Interdisciplinary Study on Recruitment and Retention of Women in Saskatchewan Engineering and Mining. Dr. Peltier-Huntley is a professional engineer, diversity and inclusion research consultant, facilitator, and speaker. She was interested in how mining companies were going to reach their gender parity goals, which inspired her to go back to school and earn her Master's. IMII Member Workforce Development Initiative: Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Digital Upskilling for the Mining Sector. This program was developed to support and engage with people who are interested in working in mining or already working in the industry, and looking to upskill. It was designed with diversity in mind, prioritizing Indigenous people, women, and newcomers to Canada. The Digital Upskilling program includes 25 hours in the classroom, helping participants upgrade their digital and workplace skills while helping them get connected to the labour market. The minerals industry is ever-evolving due to technological advancements and innovations. Programs like this help students and workers commit to excellence in the face of change.
