Another hydrogen fuel station fully operational in B.C. - well done HTEC and their partners at 7-11 Canada.
HTEC is proud to announce the opening of its sixth retail hydrogen station at 688 Southeast Marine Drive, strengthening British Columbia’s hydrogen station network. “We’re excited to see this new station come online—it’s another step forward in building a hydrogen ecosystem to decarbonize the transportation sector that the HTEC team has been working toward for years. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from the CIB, as well as from both federal and provincial governments, and our partners. Most of all, we’re thankful for our customers—the early adopters whose continued commitment is helping drive this transition to a cleaner future.” Said Colin Armstrong, President & CEO, HTEC. Thank you to our funding partners from Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA). We also want to acknowledge our project partners 7-Eleven Canada and Cavendish Hydrogen for your collaboration and commitment in helping us advance British Columbia’s hydrogen ecosystem. We extend our appreciation to Marc Goodman, GM & VP at 7-Eleven Canada, and Todd Romaine, Executive Director, BC, CHA for joining us today. CHA Hydrogen British Columbia welcomes the introduction of the Hydrogen Facility Regulation by the BC Energy Regulator (BCER). This marks a pivotal step toward regulatory clarity and investment certainty for the province’s growing hydrogen sector. Developed through collaboration with the hydrogen industry, First Nations, and communities, the regulation: ✅ Classifies facilities by production/storage levels ✅ Outlines permitting, safety, and operational requirements ✅ Streamlines approvals for low-risk projects ✅ Ensures oversight for complex developments This framework supports innovation while upholding safety, transparency, and community engagement—all essential pillars for scaling hydrogen responsibly. Member FortisBC has successfully tested new methane pyrolysis hydrogen production equipment and is now looking to develop a commercial-scale project. FortisBC partnered with Australia's Hazer Group Limited to build a new methane pyrolysis test rig in Kitchner, B.C. FortisBC is interested in using low-carbon hydrogen as a blending fuel to reduce the carbon intensity of its natural gas. The synthetic graphite that would be produced as a byproduct – carbon in solid form – has potential applications in making anodes for batteries and as a low-carbon alternative to metallurgical coal in making steel. FortisBC and Hazer are now looking for a potential site in B.C. for a commercial scale Hazer hydrogen plant.
