This collaborative effort aims to help the Park Board reimagine nearly 20 km of shoreline to be more resilient, accessible, inclusive and climate-ready. The project involves assessing coastal hazard vulnerabilities, conducting detailed numerical modelling and developing high-level shoreline design typologies. These designs will incorporate architectural landscape renderings, cost estimates and where possible, innovative nature-based solutions—all with the goal of creating more accessible and adaptable public spaces that can withstand the pressures of a changing climate. The final plan will help guide future capital investments and maintenance priorities across Vancouver’s shoreline parks. • Our dedicated Calgary field staff recently gathered in Canmore during a beautiful late winter day to participate in some crucial field training on ice safety and conducting ice rescues provided by the Rescue, Safety, and Medical experts at RavenRSM. This session was designed to equip our team with the skills and knowledge necessary to be aware of and respond to ice-related emergencies effectively. The training covered a range of scenarios, from self-rescue techniques to assisting colleagues in distress, emphasizing the importance of quick thinking and teamwork. The freeze-thaw cycles in late fall and early spring can create unpredictable and hazardous conditions around water bodies. Safety is a cornerstone of our field work activities, and understanding the risks of working around ice and being prepared to respond appropriately to emergencies are essential. The ice rescue training provided by RavenRSM ensures that our team can confidently be aware of and manage these risks. By investing in comprehensive safety training, we empower our team to perform their duties with the highest level of competence and care. Our commitment to safety and excellence allows us to deliver high-quality environmental consulting services our clients have come to expect. • At Hatfield, we are dedicated to delivering services that promote sustainable stewardship of British Columbia's vital water resources. In 2019 and 2020, Hatfield undertook comprehensive environmental flow needs (EFN) and water balance studies for the Nicomekl and Serpentine watersheds in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Our team demonstrated the initial steps in a process roadmap aimed at sustainable water allocation, shedding light on existing water stresses in these vital watersheds. The culmination of this work was presented in two reports published by the Government of British Columbia, in the Water Science Series. These publications underscore Hatfield’s expertise in seamlessly integrating aquatics, hydrological, and hydrogeological science with policy under the BC Water Sustainability Act (WSA). We are proud to contribute to the sustainable management of British Columbia's precious water resources and to support informed decision-making. ~~ 🌍🌿 Celebrating International Day of Forests: Forests and Food 🌿🌍 Forests ecosystems support biodiversity, carbon sequestration and – critically – food security and sustainable livelihoods for approximately 1.6 billion people worldwide. Across Indonesia, forests are vital sources of fruits, nuts, vegetables, mushrooms, wild game, fish, and traditional medicinal plants. At Hatfield Indonesia, we work extensively on carbon project development, sustainable forest management, and policy analysis, ensuring that forestry initiatives respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities and their equitable access to the natural resources that have sustained their food, shelter, and culture for generations. We collaborate closely with international organizations, investors, and project developers and proponents to ensure that in all types of forestry initiative, forest-dependent communities have meaningful input to their design and implementation. 🌱 Today, on #InternationalDayOfForests, we are reminded of the profound connection between forests and food security. We are excited to continue our work with all stakeholders and to build sustainable and equitable futures for people and forests. • March 22 is World Water Day 💧 On this day, we recognize and highlight the vital importance of water in our world. This year’s theme, “Glacial Preservation”, highlights the need to protect glaciers, which are rapidly melting due to climate change. This creates uncertainty for water flows, with profound impacts on people and the planet. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that future generations inherit a planet where water remains a plentiful and accessible resource. Safeguarding water resources and aquatic ecosystems is a foundation of Hatfield's business and corporate culture. Hatfield aims to reduce our environmental footprint and assists our clients with a range of services including water quality monitoring, ecosystem flow needs, ecotoxicology studies, and sustainable water use practices. We are committed to doing our part, while assisting our clients in sustainably managing this essential natural resource.
