As more companies move to remote or hybrid practices, what happens to the office space that's left behind? Studies indicate that 20% of commercial office spaces could become obsolete within the next decade, leading to "stranded assets" as building owners fail to keep up with market shifts, technological advances or regulatory changes. Real estate assets unable to adapt to sustainability criteria in particular risk becoming stranded. Key sustainability measures like energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption and minimizing carbon footprints can help building owners mitigate financial, regulatory or market and tenant demand risks. In the transition to a #netzero economy, stranded assets are inevitable, but owners can get ahead of these challenges while unlocked value by advancing strategic retrofits through innovative financing, transforming obsolete properties into vibrant, sustainable and economically viable assets. Forbes / Ali H. outlines the value that can be unlocked by repositioning stranded office buildings through sustainability. Give it a read, and get in touch to learn how we can help unlock your efficiency potential. https://lnkd.in/gAHdevRx #energyefficiency #strandedassets #assetmanagement #sustainability #ESG #retrofits #commercialrealestate #office

Canada's latest #GHGemission data has been released, highlighting how each sector has fared in the journey to reduce our nation's emissions. 🍁⚡ While Canada has managed to reduce emissions by 65Mt since 2005, we still have a long way to go to reach our climate goals. Aiming to reduce GHG by 40-45% by 2030 (equivalent to -303Mt), more action needs to be taken. Since 2005, buildings have reduced GHG emissions by only 2.3%. Making up 12% of our nation's total GHG emissions -- and up to 40% of emissions in urban areas -- this means that buildings offer a sizeable opportunity for reduction efforts, whether through #netzero new builds or retrofitting old building stock to improve energy efficiency. Don't let this opportunity for GHG reduction pass -- get in touch to learn more about how efficiency retrofits can help fight climate change while making your building more resilient. https://lnkd.in/e7fqHBtF #energyefficiency #buildingefficiency #buildingemissions #retrofits #emissions #GHG

Congratulations to each of the 100 buildings certified to CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council's Zero Carbon Building - Design Standard by the end of 2024. This marks a major milestone for ESG efforts across the country as the industry shifts to meet growing expectations for energy-efficient, #zerocarbon buildings. With buildings accounting for 40% of carbon emissions in urban areas, it is crucial that new builds are designed with net-zero emissions in mind. Aging building stock can improve their ESG efforts by adding energy efficient upgrades and retrofits to reduce their emissions and utility costs, all while increasing building value. We're proud that our own retrofit projects receive Investor Ready Energy Efficiency (IREE) certification from CAGBC, helping build investor confidence in sustainable efforts. Canadian executives are increasingly concerned about climate change, with 85% expressing worry all or most of the time -- a significant rise from 59% in 2023. According to Deloitte's recent 2024 CxO Sustainability Report, Canadian C-Suite executives are by no means ignoring calls from board members, consumers, government, shareholders, employees, lenders and more to integrate sustainability plans into their operations. Some executives credit a lack of sustainable solutions (22%) and having no executive specifically responsible for leading sustainability efforts (20%) as obstacles to meeting their #netzero goals. Facing significant pressure from all sides, business and building owners may be happy to know that our simple #retrofit solutions offer sustainability, value and competitiveness in one seamless package. We invest in, develop and manage energy efficiency solutions, taking on the risk, and leaving you with the reward. Today is World Water Day 🌍💧 At Efficiency Capital, we know that #energyefficiency and #waterconservation go hand in hand. Buildings can consume vast amounts of water, from running through heating and cooling systems, to being used by tenants. By integrating energy-efficient solutions like heat recovery, low-flow fixtures, and smart leak detection, building #retrofits can help reduce both #waterwaste and #energyconsumption. #WorldWaterDay is a reminder of the importance of sustainable water management in building resilient communities. As we retrofit buildings for a low-carbon future, let’s also prioritize water-smart solutions that protect this essential resource. 💡 Small changes create big impacts. Let’s work together to build a future where water and energy efficiency drive sustainability. https://lnkd.in/dz6k9hjc #WaterForPeace #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency #WaterConservation #Retrofits

With Enbridge issuing a notice that #energy prices will increase across Ontario, improving #energyefficiency in buildings crucial to ensuring operating costs remain low while creating healthier, brighter spaces for tenants. By optimizing and automating energy systems in buildings through comprehensive #retrofits, owners and operators can decouple their assets from massive--and expensive--utility requirements. The letter from Enbridge to the Ontario Energy Board lists the increase in natural gas prices as increasing by between 21 and 47 per cent, starting April 1. For MURBs, non-profit housing and some co-op buildings, this increase in cost, if not mitigated, may pull much-needed funding away from critical services. By making buildings efficient as possible, we can help curve the impact on rising energy costs. https://lnkd.in/eKrNAArS #energycosts #operatingcosts #utilities #coopbuildings #nonprofithousing #buildingefficiency #murbs
