During our EOWC meeting, we highlighted our successful partnership with Environmental Leadership Canada on their Municipal Climate Internship program. Municipal climate interns Amrit Kaur, Ashtyn Nauffts, Molly Langabeer, and Roberta Green presented and shared the progress of their work with members municipalities United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, The Corporation of the County of Prince Edward, Kawartha Lakes and Hastings County. Their presentation highlighted the valuable contributions the interns have made toward sustainability initiatives, showcasing their research, insights, and recommendations for improving environmental practices across municipalities. Moving paramedic service calls to the Medical Priority Dispatch System to triage patients is a game-changer not only for our patients, but also for municipalities. It is something that the EOWC is proud to have advocated for and we look forward to continue to see positive results for our patients and paramedics. Navigating product labels can be more complex than it seems! 🍁 Understanding the differences between terms like ‘Made in Canada,’ ‘Product of Canada,’ ‘Canadian Owned,’ and ‘Canadian Operated’ helps businesses and consumers make informed choices.    To clarify these distinctions, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce has developed a set of infographics to provide helpful definitions. 🙌   By fostering a strong business environment, we can support local businesses, attract investment, retain Canadian jobs, and enhance economic competitiveness.

The Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus is excited to sign a Memorandum of Understanding agreement together with the Great Lakes and St-Lawrence Cities Initiative | Alliance des Villes des Grands Lacs et du St-Laurent. Thank you Co-Chair Mayor Mat Siscoe and Phillipe Murphy-Rhéaume for attending our board meeting in the City of Kingston to sign on behalf of GLSLCI. This MOU sets the framework for our organizations' partnership moving forward on mutual priorities. It further highlights the importance of building community relationships across Canada and the U.S., and enhancing economic, climate and social resilience. The EOWC looks forward to the opportunity to work alongside the GLSLCI to support and advance vibrant, sustainable communities across the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region. We look forward to attending your Annual General Conference on May 14 to16 in Milwaukee!

The Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus congratulates Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his incoming cabinet. Congratulations as well to Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Rob Flack, Associate Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Graydon Smith, and Rural Affairs Minister Lisa Thompson. We are also very pleased to see our region represented by Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, David Piccini, and Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence, and Security, Nolan Quinn.

Chair Bonnie Clark represented Eastern Ontario's municipalities today at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors meeting in Cité de Dorval / City of Dorval as part of the panel on Canada-U.S. relations and strategies for engagement amid the newly imposed tariffs. As our Chair states, "It's all about our relationships. We need to keep pushing our message and sharing our factual data. All of our communities in the U.S. and Canada are affected." Thank you to President Rebecca Bligh for hosting us and fellow panelists Drew Dilkens, Rowena Santos and Sylvian Ouellette for their insight.
